Carey: "Liberty bezorgt de Formule 1 fris momentum"

Liberty Media heeft in 2017 stappen gezet om een stabiele fundering te leggen voor de Formule 1. Dat stelt Formule 1-baas Chase Carey in een terugblik op het eerste jaar dat Liberty het voor het zeggen had in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Hoewel er in de paddock gefluisterd wordt dat sommige teams ontevreden zijn over de agressieve investeringsstrategie van Liberty gelooft Carey dat dit broodnodig was.

"We zijn altijd duidelijk geweest dat we op de korte termijn zouden investeren in een betere sport voor de toekomst", steekt Carey van wal. "Ik heb het vaker gezegd, de Formule 1 heeft zich te lang blindgestaard op de korte termijn. Wij hebben de sport een fris momentum bezorgd. Veel dingen gingen de afgelopen jaren niet de goede kant op, maar dit jaar zijn de bezoekersaantallen en kijkcijfers omhoog gegaan."

"We hebben een positieve sfeer te pakken. De sport had frisse energie en investeringen nodig. Om te groeien is dat noodzakelijk. Voor niets gaat de zon op. We hadden geen organisatie om de Formule 1 echt te ontwikkelen en uit te bouwen. We hadden geen onderzoek, we hadden geen marketing, we hadden geen afdeling digitale media. Als je dergelijke aspecten verwaarloost, dan raak je achterop bij andere sporten. Dat is de realiteit."

Over de dreiging dat Ferrari de Formule 1 gaat verlaten, zegt Carey tegen persbureau EFE: "Het merk Ferrari is een ongelooflijk belangrijke en waardevolle partner voor de Formule 1 en het is absoluut onze intentie om hen te behouden voor deze sport."

Ik ben geneigd Liberty het voordeel van de twijfel te geven, en dan met name in de persoon van Ross Brawn, maar het moet ook niet meer te lang duren.
Je kunt wel vele blabla ertegen aan gooien, en interne herstructurering is ook zeker belangrijk, maar als kijker het gaat mij erom wat ik werkelijk aan verandering waarneem. En dat is voorlopig niet veel:

-meer circus en toestanden voor de bezoekers: +/-
-vettere achterbanden ++
-afname inhaalpogingen --
-halo: --
-geen strafpunten meer bij motorwissel, wel achteraan starten: +

Op mijn Sinterklaaslijstje staat
- minder voorspelbaarheid
- spannender races
- groter startveld
- beter geluid
Maar dat zit er waarschijnlijk voorlopig niet in. Ik snap best dat Rome niet op een dag is gebouwd, maar wachten tot 2021 duurt me te lang; dan ben ik waarschijnlijk al afgehaakt, zoals ik nu al regelmatig afhaak.

  Ik denk dat het begint naar te luisteren naar wat teams willen! Al die ingrediënten bij elkaar gooien dan er wat moois en aantrekkelijks van maken! Zo trek je ook meerdere merken naar de F1.

Weer een boel poeha en blabla van Snorremans. Hij kan beter aangeven wanneer zijn “fris momentum” zich echt uit gaat betalen.

En waarom zijn de bezoekersaantallen en kijkcijfers omhoog gegaan? Vermoed vooral door het duel Mercedes versus Ferrari en Hamilton versus Vettel tot even na de zomerrust. Dat hadden we al ff niet meer meegemakkt.

  eens Larry, ik denk dat onze snorremans een beetje voorbarig is vwb de kijkcijfers, lijkt mij verstandig om loop volgend seizoen de balans nogmaals op te maken, vooralsnog gaat het niet de goede kant op met f1, de Halo, motoren verder aan banden, geluid is nog steeds bagger, zie eigenlijk het lijstje van Caramba...
