Plannen voor F1-race in Miami nemen concrete vormen aan

De leiding van de Formule 1 kijkt serieus naar de mogelijkheden voor een extra Grand Prix in de Verenigde Staten. Op dit moment is Amerika alleen via een race op het Circuit of the Americas nabij Austin op de kalender vertegenwoordigd. Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media heeft een stratenrace in New York als prioriteit aangestipt, maar bestudeert ook andere opties.

Zo bracht commercieel directeur Sean Bratches begin deze maand een bezoek aan Miami, meldt de Miami Herald. Hij sprak met vertegenwoordigers van de stad en potentiële organisatoren voor de race en samen met een team aan circuitinspecteurs struinde hij mogelijke lay-outs voor een circuit af. De hoop is dat Miami op zijn vroegst in 2020 een race kan organiseren.

Vicente Betancourt werkt voor de gemeente Miami aan speciale evenementen. Hij zegt: "Een Grand Prix is als de Super Bowl van de autosport. Hopelijk kunnen we het verwezenlijken. De Formule 1 is langs geweest met hun circuitinspecteurs en ze hebben onze straten bekeken. We moeten zien of het kan werken en wat het eventueel zou gaan kosten. De beslissing ligt bij de Formule 1."

Hij heeft Bratches wel medegedeeld dat er in Miami financieel weinig te halen valt. Betancourt: "Ik ben open en eerlijk geweest. We zouden het graag doen, maar we hebben geen geld." De organisatie had een half dozijn mogelijke lay-outs bedacht, onder meer langs de AmericanAirlines Arena, over Dodge Island en Biscayne Boulevard en door de PortMiami Tunnel. Dat laatste is echter sowieso geen optie meer.

  Ongetwijfeld laat Snorremans nu al een team sleutelen aan een geschikt Miami Vice-script waarin een paar F1-coureurs de hoofdrollen Sonny Crockett en Rico Tubbs van spelen.
  Half uur voor de start is dan de uitvoering. Dat lijkt belachelijk vanwege het concentratieverlies, maar hé... “This is America!” en weer een ‘fris momentum’ voor de F1...

  Rosberg is Crockett en Lewis is Tubbs (Vallteri doet niet mee, heeft 0 uitstraling natuurlijk),
  samen rijden ze door Miami om ten strijde te trekken tegen al het gespuis in de stad,
  naast de positieve publiciteit voor dat duo is het ook een mooie gelegenheid om de oude vriendschap nieuw leven in te blazen!
  Probleem is wel dat ze in een Ferrari moeten rijden, zullen de hoge heren in Stuttgart leuk vinden..

  Uiteindelijk blijkt de uit the jail ontsnapte Mallya het grote brein achter alle misdaden te zijn... ;)

Jammer, Miami is een gave stad en zou goed op de kalender staan, ben er aardig bekend en zou een evt gp aangrijpen voor een volgend bezoek. Ook NYC zou ik graag op de kalender zien.

F1 moet een keer op houden met circuits langs monumentale gebouwen... Het moet gemaakt worden met de mooiste bochtencombinaties die er mogelijk zijn en uiteindelijk wordt elk stukje van de stad vanzelf bijzonder des te meer rijders er in de muur knallen... Het is gewoon zonde dat Singapore de Singapore Chicane eruit haalde... Ik keek echt uit naar dat stukje van t circuit... Nu is alleen onder de tribune door nog even spannend en de snelle voorlaatste knik.

Als LM de fans zo belangrijk vindt waarom schrijven ze dan geen fansurvey uit met de vraag hoe de wereldfan denkt over die "spectaculaire glamoureuze"citybanen.
Ik denk de uitslag dan wel te weten, mijn steun hebben ze in ieder geval niet.
Als dit dan hun prioriteit is hoeven we hier in Nederland in ieder geval niet meer na te denken over een "gewoon"circuit.
