Lewis Williamson wint McLaren-test door BRDC Award

Lewis Williamson is vanavond uitgeroepen tot de 22e winnaar van de felbegeerde McLaren Autosport BRDC Award. De 21-jarige Britse Formule Renault vice-kampioen ontvangt hiermee 100.000 pond, lidmaatschap van de Britsh Racing Driver Club, een TW Steel horloge en Puma racekleding voor een jaar. Daarnaast mag Williamson testen in een McLaren Formule 1-auto.

Williamson kreeg de award uitgereikt uit handen van eerdere winnaars David Coulthard en Paul di Resta. De Brit vertelde: "Wat kan ik zeggen? Ik ben helemaal in shock. Ik heb gewoon het hele jaar alles gegeven, 100%. Dat is alles wat je kunt doen. Toen ik eenmaal hoorde dat ik bij de laatste zes zat voor de BRDC Award brak ik in tranen uit. Dus om nu te winnen...", aldus Williamson.

Om de award te winnen moest Williamson zijn vijf rivalen verslaan in onder andere een test in een Formule 2-bolide en een Mercedes DTM-auto. Als prijs mag hij komend jaar een keer met de McLaren Formule 1-auto testen.
