Ferrari neemt 15-jarige Braziliaan op in de opleiding

Gianluca Petecof is toegevoegd aan het rijtje coureurs dat onderdeel uitmaakt van de Ferrari Driver Academy. Petecof is een 15-jarige Braziliaan die tot nu toe alleen in de karting actief is geweest. De verwachting is dat hij in 2018 zijn eerste schreden in de autosport zet.

Petecof kwam dit jaar uit in het Europees kampioenschap karten, waarin hij beslag legde op de zesde plaats in een veld met 34 rijders. De jonge Braziliaan testte recent met een Formule 4-auto en het is de bedoeling dat hij in die instapklasse zijn eerste ervaring met eenzitters op gaat doen.

Ferrari is druk bezig om het opleidingsprogramma uit te breiden. Eerder legde de Scuderia dit jaar al Callum Ilott en Robert Shwartzman vast voor de Ferrari Driver Academy. Ilott maakte furore in de Formule 3 en Shwartzman is afkomstig uit de Formule Renault 2.0.

De Ferrari Driver Academy bestaat verder uit Charles Leclerc (Formule 2-kampioen), Antonio Fuoco (achtste in de Formule 2), Giuliano Alesi (vijfde in de GP3), Guan Yu Zhou (achtste in het Europees kampioenschap Formule 3), Marcus Armstrong (Italiaans Formule 4-kampioen) en Enzo Fittipaldi (zevende in het Italiaans kampioenschap Formule 4).
