Brawn: "Zelfs samenwerking met Ferrari kent grenzen"

Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media doet er alles aan om Ferrari binnenboord te houden, maar niet ten koste van alles. Dat benadrukt sportief directeur Ross Brawn in gesprek met Auto Bild. Uit onvrede over de uitgangspunten van Liberty voor een nieuwe motorformule voor 2021 dreigde Ferrari al om de Formule 1 te verlaten. Liberty wil Ferrari best tegemoet komen, maar het mediabedrijf is niet van plan om de oren helemaal te laten hangen naar de wensen van het Italiaanse sportwagenmerk.

Brawn legt uit: "De vraag of wij Ferrari willen houden in de Formule 1 is een retorische. Natuurlijk willen we Ferrari niet kwijt. Ferrari profiteert van de Formule 1 en andersom. Maar elke samenwerking kent grenzen. Het is een kwestie van wat Ferrari kan accepteren en wat wij kunnen accepteren. We willen oplossingen bedenken die iedereen in de Formule 1 houden en we willen geen iconische teams verliezen. Ferrari vormt een belangrijk onderdeel van de Formule 1 en we moeten naar ze luisteren en ze respecteren."

Hij geeft aan dat hij de negatieve reacties op de voorstellen niet had zien aankomen. "Dat heeft me inderdaad wel verbaasd. Ik heb een aantal vergaderingen over de nieuwe motor voor de toekomst bijgewoond en het was volgens mij vrij duidelijk welke richting we op zouden gaan. Iedereen was het unaniem eens over de doelen die we met de nieuwe motoren willen bewerkstelligen en onze uitgangspunten zijn daarop gebaseerd", aldus Brawn.

De motorenwerkgroep van Liberty zal nu met de motorleveranciers de reglementen verder uitwerken. Brawn: "Het is net als met een restaurant, waar sommigen het voorgerecht wel lekker vinden en het hoofdgerecht niet of vice versa. Daarom vinden nu nieuwe discussies plaats. Als de autofabrikanten betere ideeën hebben, dan staan we daarvoor open. Doorgaan met de huidige aandrijflijn is echter geen optie."

Durf te wedden dat ze die maffia club helemaal tegemoet komen! Die gooien alles op hun veto recht! Als ze die eerst eens afpakken en gelijk gaan behandelen komen ze wat geloofwaardiger over! Tot die tijd geloof ik niets van deze verhalen!

  Dat is toch zwaar overdreven. Men moet eens stoppen met doen alsof Ferrari de belichaamiging is van alle kwaad en onrecht en de wereld. Bij Ferrari vegen ze enkel hun eigen straatje schoon, net zoals bij de overige teams.

  Ferrari heeft hun Veto eerlijkgezegd bijna nooit ingezet (en dit veto is een ander dan als er unaniem een wijziging door gevoegd moet worden als de regels al vast staan) naar mijn weten hebben ze het de laatste jaren maar 1x ingezet en dat was op verzoek van alle teams toen ze de motor regelementen wilden wijzigen naar een 1.6 4-cillinder en daar is de 1.6 v6 uitgekomen.

  Het zou ook kunnen dat Brawn slimmer is dan je denkt: Ferrari paaien met mooie woorden en een cosmetische handreiking, maar intussen gewoon zijn eigen plan uitvoeren. Het is inmiddels wel duidelijk dat als het spel echt op de wagen komt, Ferrari het onderspit zal delven. Ze kunnen namelijk nergens anders heen. Omgekeerd duiken andere teams maar al te graag in het gat dat Ferrari achter laat. Het enige waar Brawn voor moet oppassen is dat hij niet al te scherp aan de wind vaart waardoor Ferrari het lukt om allianties te kweken.

  Dat vetorecht telt zoveel haken en ogen en kan echt niet zomaar toegepast worden. Het vetorecht mag bijvoorbeeld geen imagoschade van de F1 bewerkstelligen. Jij doet nu net alsof Ferrari bij alles hun veto in kan zetten. Misschien moet je je eens verdiepen in waarom Ferrari een veto heeft voor bepaalde beslissingen. Dan zul je ook zien dat dit vetorecht de hele F1 kan helpen indien bijvoorbeeld LM een bepaalde richting op wil, terwijl alle teams iets anders willen.

De F1 zonder Ferrari zou wel even wennen zijn natuurlijk, maar met een mooi race concept komt de F1 daar wel overheen.

Ferrari die niet in de F1 meedoet is een ander verhaal, dan wordt het ineens een gewoon sportwagen merk.
