Juncadella probeert zich naar een F1-contract te 'bluffen'

Daniel Juncadella is net als de meeste coureurs momenteel met heel andere dingen bezig dan met racen, maar in tegenstelling tot veel van zijn collega's is hij nog niet met vakantie. De Spanjaard beproeft deze dagen zijn geluk bij een groot pokertoernooi in Praag.

Juncadella vertrouwde PokerNews toe: "Pokeren is de perfecte mentale training voor mij. In races loopt de adrenaline altijd hoog op omdat je binnen een tel van een seconde keuzes moet maken. Bij pokeren krijg ik langer de tijd om beslissingen af te wegen, al moet ik ook niet te veel tijd hebben om na te denken."

"In het racen kun je een ander inhalen. Bij pokeren vat ik dingen soms te persoonlijk op. Er zijn veel goede pokerspelers, maar ik kom uit een competitieve omgeving en ik wil natuurlijk winnen."

Over zijn toekomst zei hij: "Mijn plannen voor komend seizoen worden volgende week bepaald en waarschijnlijk blijf ik bij Mercedes. Ik ga in ieder geval meedoen aan de 24 uur van Daytona. Wat de Formule 1 betreft, ik heb geen grote sponsor achter me staan. Ik sluit het niet uit voor de toekomst, maar om het zonder geldschieter zover te schoppen zal ik minstens de DTM-titel op mijn naam moeten schrijven."

Juncadella heeft wel de rol van testrijder voor Force India vertolkt. In 2014 was de inmiddels 26-jarige Spanjaard aan de Indiase renstal verbonden.

Alonso doet ook mee aan de 24uurrace va Daytona om dan een Spaanse pokerface tegen te komen in de paddock als of Alonsob daar op zit wachten een landgenoot....
