Williams transfereert F1-technologie naar ruimtevaart

Williams Advanced Engineering en Airbus hebben een principeakkoord gesloten om samen te werken en Formule 1-technologie naar de lucht- en ruimtevaart te transfereren. De engineering-tak van de Britse renstal gaat noviteiten uit de koningsklasse van de autosport delen met de vliegtuigbouwer.

De samenwerking spitst zich vooral toe op ultralichte materialen, technologieën voor batterijen en elektrische cell chemistries voor een satelliet-programma van Airbus. Williams Advanced Engineering put ook uit de ervaringen en kennis opgedaan als batterijleverancier voor de Formule E.

Craig Wilson, directeur van Williams Advanced Engineering: "Airbus staat synoniem aan innovatie en technologie in deze industrie. Daarom zijn we verguld om de handen met hen ineen te slaan voor dit project. We hopen een bijdrage te kunnen leveren met onze expertise op gebied van elektrificatie, batterijsystemen en geavanceerde lichtgewicht materialen, terwijl we tegelijkertijd willen leren van hun ervaring in de ruimtevaart. We kijken uit naar deze samenwerking."
