Valtteri Bottas: "Ik moet winnen om het Lewis Hamilton lastig te maken"

Met een derde plaats in het kampioenschap deed Valtteri Bottas het zeker niet verkeerd in zijn eerste jaar bij Mercedes. De Fin vulde de vrijgekomen positie van Nico Rosberg op en presteerde sterk in de eerste seizoenshelft. In de tweede seizoenshelft had Bottas het bij tijd en wijle moeilijk en werd zijn positie bij het team door critici ter discussie gesteld. Bottas herpakte zich en sloot het seizoen af met een overwinning in Abu Dhabi.

Ondanks de overwinningen en pole positions die Bottas scoorde in 2017, is de Fin niet geheel tevreden. Bottas beseft zich dat hij constanter zal moeten presteren om mee te kunnen doen in de strijd om de wereldtitel: "In 2018 wil ik meer races winnen, anders maak ik geen kans op de titel. Mijn prestaties waren in 2017 te wisselvallig en dat moet in 2018 echt beter. Ik denk dat ik het door niet constant presteren af heb gelegd tegen Lewis Hamilton. Ik moet continu sterk zijn om het Lewis lastig te maken en voor de titel te kunnen gaan."

    Was ook niet makkelijk voor Bottas om lager als derde te eindigen. Die auto gaat nooit stuk en rijd stationaire nog harder dan de RB. Enige was om te zorgen om RAI. Voor te blijven. Maar daar hielp Kimi en Ferrari zelf aan mee.

      Da’s waar @Schwantz maar ik gun Valtteri tot aan Melbourne best de illusie dat het nog wat meer kan worden.

      Halverwege 2018 valt dan definitief het Mercedes-doek voor hem wat contractverlenging betreft, kan hij met Kerst 2018 dik tevreden op zijn Benzjes-avontuur terugkijken en zich vol overgave op de Kerstdis storten.

      En... velen zullen dan jaloers zijn op de twee jaar van de bolle Fin bij de Duitsers. Dat pakt niemand hem meer af...

      Welke race heb jij gezien ?
      Bottas heeft in Abu Dhabi niks gekregen, maar eerlijk verdiend.
      Hamilton kon er gewoon niet aan, denk je dat ie met opzet een bocht gemist heeft?

      Hamilton's radioboodschap "Keep talk to a minimum" was om te lachen waarschijnlijk.
      Hij had zich verkeken op Bottas die race , kijk en realiseer.
