Hakkinen: "Silverstone doorslaggevend voor titel Hamilton"

De Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië op Silverstone was het keerpunt in de strijd om de wereldtitel in de Formule 1 tussen Sebastian Vettel en Lewis Hamilton. Dat zegt Mika Hakkinen in zijn blog voor Unibet.

Hamilton stond lange tijd achter Vettel in de titelstrijd, maar het momentum vloog de kant van de Brit op in het weekend op Silverstone. De Mercedes-coureur was die dag op dominante wijze de beste, terwijl Vettel door bandenproblemen niet verder kwam dan de zevende plaats. De Duitser zou daarna nog slechts twee races winnen, Hamilton maar liefst vijf.

Hakkinen is van mening dat het belang van de zege van Hamilton op Silverstone niet onderschat mag worden. Ook weet de wereldkampioen van 1998 en 1999 het werk van Mercedes op waarde te schatten. "Sommigen denken dat het keerpunt in de campagne van Lewis na de zomerstop kwam, toen hij op Spa, Monza en Singapore won. Volgens mij was de dominante zege in Groot-Brittannië echter de trigger. Daarnaast werkte Mercedes hard om de auto te begrijpen en het meeste uit de nieuwe reglementen te halen."

"Ik zag dat de nieuwe auto's erg snel waren toen ik de wintertests in Barcelona bezocht. Ze waren groter, hadden bredere banden en meer downforce, dus ze was fysiek zwaarder om ze te besturen. Mercedes heeft haar 'diva' vervolgens overmeesterd en daarom is teamwerk zo belangrijk. Er zijn zoveel mensen betrokken bij een competitief Formule 1-team en iedereen in de fabriek moet alles geven, zodat problemen opgelost kunnen worden en de auto sneller wordt."

Heeft niks met expertise te maken, maar gewoon interessant lullen... Het zijn echt maar gewoon mensen hoor. En natuurlijk begreep Mercedes de auto steeds beter, maar er was tijdens de gp van GB geen sprake van een doorbraak in de afstelling o.i.d.

Vettel won de race erna redelijk dominant in Hongarije en kwam toen in punten weer voor op Hamilton. Dus ik weet niet waarom GB nu opeens de ommekeer was?

Het lijkt mij vrij duidelijk dat Singapore de ommekeer was. Daar had Vettel weer ongeveer op gelijke hoogte kunnen komen met Hamilton, maar toen werd het gat opeens meer dan verdubbeld (ongeveer).

  Foutje, na Singapore had Vettel een goede voorsprong kunnen pakken. Maarja, 'achteraf' is mooi wonen...

  Vettel won niet redelijk dominant in Hongarije, maar had dat wel gedaan als hij geen problemen had gekregen met zijn stuurinrichting.

Hakinnen is meer expert dan mij, maar ik denk toch echt Singapore.... Voor die race stonden ze nog redelijk gelijk, maar daarna was er een flink gat.

Als Vettel Singapore had uitgereden, normaal gesproken op P1 of P2, dan waren ze voor de laatste races bij elkaar in de buurt gebleven en had een DNF voor Hamilton ervoor kunnen zorgen dat Vettel de titel zou halen, ook al was Hamilton iedere race sneller.

  Vergeet niet dat als (I know...) Vettel Singapore had gewonnen en de top drie er niet opeens uit lag, Hamilton daar ook maximaal 3e was geworden. Das een verschil van 35 punten met hoe het gelopen is.

Silverstone was als Stalingrad, zoals Singapore als Koersk was, waarna Suzuka als D-day was om het laatste kleine zetje te geven. Ja, ik kan mij wel in Mika z'n gedachten vinden!
