Het Dakar-avontuur van debutant Bryce Menzies was van korte duur. Al in de tweede etappe verkeek de Amerikaan zich op een heuveltje in het parkoers, waarna hij op hoge snelheid over de kop sloeg. Zijn auto raakte zwaar beschadigd. Menzies zelf kwam er zonder kleerscheuren vanaf. Zijn wagen was echter te gehavend om zijn weg te vervolgen. Hier de beelden van het ongeluk:
