Force India wil volledige team onder één dak huisvesten

Force India koestert plannen om op termijn al het personeel van het team onder te brengen in de fabriek in Silverstone. De medewerkers van de Indiase renstal zijn momenteel over twee locaties verdeeld. Het merendeel van de teamleden is werkzaam in Silverstone, maar Force India maakt ook gebruik van de windtunnel van Toyota en deze is gevestigd in Keulen.

Als het aan Force India-directeur Otmar Szafnauer ligt, dan worden alle activiteiten in de toekomst bij elkaar gebracht. Aan Autosport verklaarde hij: "Het helpt enorm om alles onder één dak te hebben. Daar is bij ons geen sprake van. Een kwart van onze medewerkers is werkzaam op een andere locatie dan de overige driekwart. Hopelijk hebben we iedereen over twee of drie jaar onder één dak."

Force India heeft de afgelopen seizoenen uitstekend gepresenteerd. Vorig jaar consolideerde de Indiase renstal de historische vierde plaats in het kampioenschap voor constructeurs van een jaar eerder. Het team moest alleen zijn meerdere erkennen in de drie grootmachten Mercedes, Ferrari en Red Bull Racing. Force India vestigde in 2017 een persoonlijk record met 187 punten.

Technisch directeur Andrew Green heeft gezegd dat een kapitaalinjectie het team in staat stelde om gedurende het voorbije seizoen een tandje bij te schakelen met de ontwikkeling, waardoor het de kennis over de auto wist te vergroten. De Indiase renstal hoopt in 2018 het gat naar de top drie te verkleinen, al zal Force India ook over de schouder naar McLaren en Renault moeten kijken.

  Precies @Benny, de locatie wordt niet genoemd en Silverstone lijkt ook niet logisch want waarom zouden ze anders nu in Keulen samen met Toyota de windtunnel verder gaan ontwikkelen?

  @snel: Sauber zit in Hinwill, Zwitserland. Verder staat de STR-fabriek Faenza en Honda's faciliteiten in Sakura, Japan en het motor gedeelte van Renault ook gewoon in Frankrijk.

  Ja, @Snelrondje, Waarom? Vroeger was het handig in verband met het tussendoor testen maar dat mag al lang niet meer.

  @Kenju, klopt, Sauber en STR zitten niet in Motorsport Valley. Honda Racing heeft er wel een vestiging. In de omgeving zijn meer dan 3000 bedrijven gevestigd die zich bezighouden met racing. De concentratie van kennis is hier enorm. Er werken meer dan 40.000 mensen in deze business waaronder een groot aantal jonge engineers met potentie om door te groeien. Er zijn faciliteiten en kleinere teams zouden gebruik kunnen maken van gedeelde faciliteiten en expertises.

Kap maar met je top 3. Die gaan ze nooit bijhalen. Het gaat idd denk ik Heel leuk worden tussen Renault/Mclaren en FI. 3 gelijkwaardige teams die gaan strijden voor plek 7/8/9/10.

  Wat mij betreft Top-2. Ik moet nog maar zijn dat mijn favo-team Ferrari er in slaagt om wederom een auto te bouwen die het een beetje behoorlijk doet.
