Deense regering steunt idee voor GP in Kopenhagen

De Deense overheid heeft zich achter de plannen voor een Formule 1-race in de straten van Kopenhagen geschaard. Dat bleek uit de woorden van Brian Mikkelsen, minister van Industrie, na een ontmoeting met Formule 1-baas Chase Carey. De hoofdstad van Denemarken zou vanaf 2020 een Grand Prix willen organiseren.

Kopenhagen heeft in ieder geval de zegen van de Deense regering. BT citeert Mikkelsen: "We hebben een prettig en constructief gesprek met Chase gevoerd. Wij als overheid zijn erin geïnteresseerd om grote sportevenementen naar Denemarken te halen en de Formule 1 past perfect in die ambitie. Ik heb Chase laten weten dat de regering dit project in Kopenhagen steunt en dat we bereid zijn om over het financiële plaatje te praten. Maar we zullen het evenement niet geheel financieren."

De initiatiefnemers zijn daarom nog op zoek naar extra middelen om de plannen in een concrete vorm te gieten. Daarnaast moet ook onder de inwoners van Kopenhagen voldoende draagvlak gecreëerd worden. De organisatoren geven momenteel de voorkeur aan een driejarig contract en een eerste Grand Prix in 2020. Langs het beoogde circuit van 4,6 kilometer lengte in Kopenhagen zou plaats moeten zijn voor zo'n 107.000 toeschouwers.

Het evenement zou de Deense economie jaarlijks tussen de 1 en 2 miljard Deense kronen (tussen de 154 en 309 miljoen euro) op moeten leveren, tegenover een kostenplaatje van tussen de 300 en 500 miljoen Deense kronen (tussen de 46 en 78 miljoen euro).

Gaat Nederland nou afgetroefd worden door Denemarken??? Dat zal toch zeker niet? Na het bericht dat LM Nederland had bezocht voor een stratencircuit, hadden allerlei woordvoerders al weer negatieve en terughoudende antwoorden eruit "getweet" zonder zich eerst in de materie te verdiepen. Woordvoerders die waarschijnlijk het verschil niet weten tussen Super League Formula en F1 en denken dat het één pot nat is. Woordvoerders die geen benul hebben van de marketingswaarde die een F1 GP met zich meebrengt. Woordvoerders die niet snappen dat het niet alledaags is dat de eigenaren van F1 op je deur komen kloppen met de vraag of je wellicht interesse hebt om een GP te organiseren, en dat je normaal gesproken om je knieën moet smeken om een GP te hosten. Maar wel lekker reactief de volgende dag een arrogant en terughoudend antwoord de ether in slingeren, zonder ook maar te beseffen waar men het over heeft, of wie men daarbij op de tenen trapt. Heb het al vaker gezegd, als Nederland niet wil dan staan er genoeg gegadigden te trappelen om ons plekje in te nemen.

Maar ach, wie zit er op een F1 GP te wachten als je het EK damesvoetbal binnen kan halen? Want het mag natuurlijk niets kosten. En niets ten nadelen van damesvoetbal hoor, maar wat leven we toch in een ambitieloos kikkerlandje. En voor alle jankerd die zeggen "gadverdamme, niet nog een stratencircuit." Ik weet niet hoe het met jullie zit, maar als er dan toch stratencircuits moeten komen dan zie ik zie liever een stratencircuit in Rotterdam, dan in Kopenhagen of Londen. En zo slecht hoeft een stratencircuit helemaal niet te zijn. In Singapore kun je beter racen dan op Zandvoort en Assen bij elkaar.

  Nederland loopt niet over van enthousiasme voor grote evenementen. Olympische Spelen 1992 & 2028 zijn beide door publieke opinie mislukt. Overlast en zo, je kent dat wel.

  Dan moet je mij toch eens uitleggen waarom 120.000 man op een B raceklasse als de A1GP afkomen alsof het de F1 zelf betreft. Omdat de Nederlandse race fan uitgemergeld is en hunkerd naar een het echte werk natuurlijk. F1 in Nederland zal voor dezelfde taferelen zorgen als in Mexico. Komt met gemak +200.000 man op af als je ze kwijt kunt. Een GP in Nederland zal niet zomaar een GP zijn, maar een compleet volksfeest.
