Jarno Opmeer uit opleidingsprogramma van Renault

Jarno Opmeer kan in 2018 niet meer op de steun van Renault rekenen. De jonge Nederlander maakte vorig jaar onderdeel uit van het opleidingsprogramma van de Franse renstal, maar zijn prestaties in de Formule Renault 2.0 Eurocup waren niet goed genoeg voor contractverlenging. Met 27 punten eindigde hij op een vijftiende plaats in het kampioenschap.

Opmeer verklaarde aan het blad Formule 1: "Het contract met Renault is eind vorig jaar niet verlengd." De 17-jarige Nederlander is het Franse team desalniettemin dankbaar. "Het maakte het voor mij mogelijk in de Formule Renault 2.0 Eurocup te rijden. Dat was anders een lastig verhaal geworden na de Formule 4."

Renault heeft vandaag de namen van de zeven coureurs uit de opleiding voor 2018 bekendgemaakt. Jack Aitken, Max Fewtrell, Christian Lundgaard en Sun Yue Yang hebben de schifting overleefd. Zij krijgen gezelschap van Sacha Fenestraz, Arthur Rougier en Victor Martins. Fenestraz veroverde vorig jaar de titel in de Formule Renault 2.0 Eurocup en maakt nu de overstap naar het Europees kampioenschap Formule 3, waarin hij voor het team van Carlin uit zal komen. Rougier en Martins zijn dit jaar actief in de Formule Renault 2.0 Eurocup.

Mia Sharizman is directeur van de Renault Sport Academy. Hij legt uit: "Dit wordt het derde jaar van de Renault Sport Academy en dit is onze meest opwindende line-up tot nu toe. Jack, Max en Christian hebben een succesvol 2017 achter de rug, terwijl Sun ook zijn potentieel heeft getoond. Sacha, Arthur en Victor voegen zich bij dat viertal en we zijn benieuwd naar hun ontwikkeling. We hopen komend seizoen weer veel successen te vieren met onze zeven talenten."

Zowel Verschoor als Opmeer zaten bij MP Motorsport in FR 2.0. Ik denk dat dat team ze beiden geen goed heeft gedaan in dat jaar. Ze zijn allebei uit de juniorprogramma's gegooid.

Ook logisch dat ze doorgaan met Sun Yue Yang, want die heeft maar liefst nul punten gehaald in 2017 in de Eurocup. Hij heeft duidelijk potentieel getoond.....

  Wellicht bedoelen ze commerciële potentie en doet Renault het goed in China. Sportief gezien was het niet veel soeps wat hij liet zien idd... ;-)

  Kijk iemand die hetzelfde gevoel heeft... Ik heb echt het gevoel dat MP afgelopen jaar in de Renault 2.0 de coureurs heeft laten stikken. In de Formule 4 zaten ze allebei lekker voorin een jaar later presteren ze beide niet bijster goed bij hetzelfde team... Hopen dat ze nog een kans krijgen bij een ander team om het tegendeel te bewijzen. Verschoor is daar dit weekend gelukkig alweer mee begonnen...

  Verschoor mag bij het veel betere team Kaufmann in de herkansing dit jaar. Van Opmeer weet ik het niet.
