Marchionne niet in de markt om Ferrari te kopen

In Italië circuleerde een vreemd gerucht dat Fiat-voorzitter Sergio Marchionne plannen aan het smeden was om samen met investeerders het merk Ferrari over te nemen. Saillant, aangezien Ferrari op dit moment onder het Fiat Chrysler Automobiles-concern valt. Op de Detroit Motor Show kreeg Marchionne de vraag of hij in de markt is om Ferrari te kopen.

Hij verwees dit verhaal naar het rijk der fabelen. "Wie brengt dit soort geruchten in omloop? Het is klinkklare onzin. Reken maar uit; Ferrari is op de beurs zo'n 20 miljard dollar waard. Voor hoeveel geld zou ik het bedrijf dan kunnen of moeten kopen? Dan hebben we het over 30 miljard dollar of meer. Ik ben een optimist, maar dan moet ik eerst nog een paar keer de loterij winnen. Liever gaan we met Ferrari het wereldkampioenschap Formule 1 veroveren en veel geld verdienen", citeert Speed Week de Fiat-president.

Dat is in de eerste helft van 2017 in elk geval goed gelukt. Sportief waren de prestaties voortvarend (al moest Ferrari de titels later wel aan concurrent Mercedes laten) en financieel deed de Italiaanse sportwagenfabrikant ook goede zaken. Over de eerste zes maanden van het voorbije jaar noteerde Ferrari een omzet van 1,48 miljard euro - een stijging van 17 procent ten opzichte van de eerste helft van 2016 - en een winst van 260 miljoen euro - 49 procent in de plus ten opzichte van 2016.

Een eerste kampioenschap in de Formule 1 sinds 2008 bleek toch weer te hoog gegrepen. Marchionne heeft de hoop dat de Scuderia komend seizoen nog sterker voor de dag komt. "Ik was een paar dagen geleden nog in Maranello en daar werd in alle kalmte gewerkt aan de voorbereidingen. Ik zou het bijna verdacht rustig noemen. Daaruit concludeer ik dat we of een topjaar tegemoet gaan, of het wordt helemaal niks."
