Force India en Sauber laten aanklacht tegen F1 vallen

Force India en Sauber hebben de aanklacht tegen de Formule 1 die ze in 2015 bij de Europese Unie indienden ingetrokken. Dat hebben deze twee teams in een gezamenlijke verklaring bekendgemaakt. Force India en Sauber trokken bij de EU aan de bel omdat in de Formule 1 sprake was van oneerlijke concurrentie. De twee renstallen hadden hun buik vol van het feit dat de grote teams meer zeggenschap hadden en van de scheve verdeling van het prijzengeld.

Voor Force India was de maat toen vol. Het team stelde destijds in een verklaring: "Force India is een van de twee teams die een klacht bij de EU heeft ingediend over hoe de Formule 1 bestuurd wordt. Het systeem voor de verdeling van de inkomsten en de totstandkoming van de regels is zowel oneerlijk als onwetmatig. Vanwege de lopende juridische zaken is het ongepast om op dit moment meer commentaar te geven."

Door toedoen van de nieuwe Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media is die onvrede weggenomen, zo laten Force India en Sauber nu weten. "We hebben besloten om de aanklacht die we in 2015 bij de Europese Commissie ingediend hebben vanwege de oneerlijke concurrentie in de Formule 1 te laten vallen."

"We vinden de dialoog die tot stand is gebracht onder leiding van de nieuwe Formule 1-baas Chase Carey en het nieuwe managementteam bij de commerciële rechtenhouder FOM zeer bemoedigend. Hun aanpak heeft een cultuur van transparantie naar de sport gebracht en illustreert de bereidheid om in debat te gaan over gevoelige fundamentele kwesties als de verdeling van het prijzengeld, kostenbesparingen en de motorreglementen."

"We vinden de nieuwe eerlijke onderhandelingstactiek van het nieuwe Formule 1-management, waarbij alle teams als gelijke worden behandeld, hoopgevend en geruststellend. De zorgen die tot de aanklacht leidden, waren zeker gerechtvaardigd, maar de nieuwe aanpak geeft ons het gevoel dat onze grieven objectief behandeld zullen worden. Bovendien lossen we dit soort kwesties liever op via een dialoog dan via een juridisch dispuut."

Ach, ik denk eerder dat beide teams hebben ingezien dat het eerder de sport nadelig zal beïnvloeden, dan dat zij er daadwerkelijk voordeel uit zouden kunnen halen. En de invloed van Ferrari en Mercedes zal ook een grote rol spelen. Je gaat uiteindelijk niet in de hand bijten die je voed.

Ze kunnen het rustig intrekken. Als er daadwerkelijk iets mis is zullen de bloedhonden van de EU het nu niet meer loslaten. En Sauber en FI kunnen dan hun handen wassen in onschuld: zij hebben de aanklacht tenslotte toch ingetrokken?

Op RTLGP wordt ongeveer hetzelfde bericht aangevuld met: "Volgens diverse bronnen zou er bij het intrekken van de aanklacht een schikking zijn getroffen tussen de Formule 1 en beide teams."

Als dit waar is, is Liberty Media dus inderdaad aan het kijken naar de jaarlijkse betalingen.

Klinkt als een logisch verhaal. Nu dictator Ecclestone weg is, is er door de instelling van Liberty Media ruimte voor dialoog en een betere verdeling van het prijzengeld is één van hun ideeën.
Wat er daarnaast eventueel geschikt is? Joost mag het weten.
