Sainz vermaakt zich op proef van de Monte Carlo Rally

Carlos Sainz junior trad gisteren voor even in de voetsporen van zijn vader, de rallylegende Carlos Sainz. Sainz junior kroop voor de laatste proef van de Monte Carlo Rally in een Renault Megane RS om als VIP-gast het parkoers te verkennen. De Spanjaard genoot met volle teugen van zijn eerste ervaringen als 'rallycoureur'.

De Renault-rijder stamelde na afloop: "Dit was heel erg speciaal. Ik heb hier vaak over gedroomd en met dank aan Renault is die droom nu werkelijkheid geworden. Ik heb altijd al een rally willen doen, met een bijrijder, pace notes en een behoorlijke snelheid. Het was geweldig! De auto voelde heel fijn aan. De wagen bevat diverse modes en ik heb alles uitgeprobeerd om volledig op mijn gemak te geraken."

"Je hebt de race-modus, de sport-modus en je kunt een beetje met de traction control spelen. Het sturen ging zeer precies en de wielophanging was stijf voor het bochtige gedeelte, dus ik heb hier veel plezier aan beleefd. Het was een fantastische ervaring. Her en der was het wat glad, maar dat hoort bij de rally van Monte Carlo. Mijn vader had me verteld om voorzichtig te zijn, maar ik heb me kostelijk vermaakt."

De winst in Monte Carlo ging naar Sebastien Ogier. De Fransman won voor de vijfde keer op een rij in het prinsdom, een unicum.

Kubica reed echt rally en ging voluit. Heb Sainz zijn rit gezien, was niet bepaald snel wat ook logisch is. Was puur pr stunt en Renault zou echt niet willen dat Sainz daar een blessure opliep.

Goed om te lezen dat hij zich vermaakt heeft. Toch altijd bij mij wel een beetje angst dat je jezelf niet "Kubicaat".

  Kubica reed echt rally en ging voluit. Heb Sainz zijn rit gezien, was niet bepaald snel wat ook logisch is. Was puur pr stunt en Renault zou echt niet willen dat Sainz daar een blessure opliep.

  Ik vind het wel knap gedaan van Sainz. Het is echt een vak apart om het goed te doen en snel te zijn. Zo langzaam was hij niet vond ik. Maar dat ligt misschien aan het verwachtingspatroon wat je vooraf hebt.

  Ging helemaal zoals ik verwachtte. gewoon vlot rijden met een sportwagen zoals iedereen zou doen. Snel zijn in rally is gewoon onmogelijk zonder nodige voorbereiding. Natuurlijk zal hij wel sneller zijn als de gemiddelde leek maar het is dan ook een f1 coureur.

Het waren een fantastische 15 km , pffffffff. Maar de reclame-jongens van Renault waren tevreden....

  Tja ,een F1 met sneeuwkettingen....... Geloof ook niet dat die stunt erg serieus genomen werd , of gepresenteerd als onderdeel van een prestigieus evenement zoals Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo... Wordt nu de schijn gewekt dat hij even serieus een laatste stage rijdt ...
