Force India overleeft verplichte crashtests met VJM11

Het team van Force India beschikt over een gehomologeerd chassis voor komend seizoen. De VJM11 heeft de verplichte crashtests van de internationale autosportbond FIA doorstaan, zo vertelde directeur Otmar Szafnauer aan Auto Motor und Sport. "We hebben alle crashtests overleefd."

De ontwikkeling van de auto voor 2018 is daardoor in een volgende fase beland. Szafnauer: "De volgende taak is om zoveel mogelijk rondetijd te vinden met de nieuwe wagen." De presentatie van de VJM11 staat gepland voor 25 februari, aan de vooravond van de eerste wintertest.

Het Circuit de Catalunya nabij Barcelona is van 26 februari tot en met 1 maart en van 6 tot en met 9 maart gastheer voor twee vierdaagse tests ter voorbereiding op het nieuwe seizoen. Force India ligt op schema. "Over drieënhalve week staat de auto voor het eerst op vier wielen", aldus Szafnauer.

Force India hoopt komend seizoen weer de vierde plaats bij de constructeurs te consolideren. Dat levert niet alleen veel geld op, het is ook beter voor de gemoedstoestand van Szafnauer. "We zijn het aan onze stand verplicht om weer voor die vierde plek te gaan. Niet alleen vanwege het geld, maar ik haat het om een stap terug te doen."
