Hülkenberg en Sainz 'extreem belangrijk' voor Renault

Nico Hülkenberg en Carlos Sainz zijn afgelopen seizoen al van grote waarde geweest voor het team van Renault en zullen dat dit jaar weer zijn. Dat stelt technisch directeur Nick Chester in gesprek met Motorsport-Total.com. Hülkenberg reed heel 2017 voor Renault. Sainz kwam vier races voor het einde over van Scuderia Toro Rosso als vervanger van de tegenvallende Jolyon Palmer.

De Spanjaard liet zich meteen gelden, aldus Chester. "Onze beide rijders zijn extreem belangrijk voor ons. Nico is iemand die heel snel en heel consistent is. Hij kan je exact vertellen waar de problemen zitten die hem belemmeren. Dan zegt hij: 'Dat is het belangrijkste voor mij en als je dat op weet te lossen kan ik harder gaan.' Vervolgens kun je ervan op aan dat je alle aandacht daarop moet vestigen en dat Nico vervolgens ook sneller gaat."

"Met Carlos is het eigenlijk van hetzelfde laken een pak. Hij geeft ons echt zeer bruikbare feedback en is ontzettend snel. Beiden voorzien ze ons van informatie waar we wat mee kunnen. " Volgens Chester voelde Sainz zich afgelopen seizoen direct op zijn gemak in de RS17. "Hij merkte meteen dat de auto meer grip en downforce genereerde dan wat hij gewend was."

Toch moest de Spanjaard wel even wennen aan de balans van de voor hem nieuwe wagen. Chester: "Gelukkig is Carlos steengoed en was hij zo gewend aan het materiaal." Hülkenberg en Sainz moeten Renault komend seizoen verder omhoog stuwen. In Abu Dhabi was de Franse renstal nog blij met de behaalde zesde plaats bij de constructeurs, voor 2018 is de top vijf het minimale doel.

Renault heeft nu ook een prima rijdersduo. Sainz is snel maar doet soms rare dingen. Hulk is degelijk en consistent. Vult elkaar goed aan.
Echter onder een voorwaarde: Sainz moet zijn ego even opzij zetten.

  Renault heeft een prima line-up voor nu met Hulkenberg en Sainz, nu het team nog in de opbouwfase zit. Abiteboul heeft ook al aangegeven dat 2018 nog een opbouwjaar is.
  
  Of de line-up ook goed genoeg is als Renault eenmaal een toptteam is waag ik te betwijfelen, maar misschien groeien ze mee en zit ik er naast.

Zou mooi zijn als zij volgend jaar ook nog een paar podiumpjes meepakken... Het is ze gegund...

  Paar podiumpjes nogwel, ik denk dat ze blij mogen zijn als ze ala Stroll met het nodige geluk een podium kunnen pakken. Ze zullen een gigantische stap moeten maken, om op eigen kracht het podium te pakken, dat zie ik nog niet direct gebeuren.

  Als Abiteboul handig is met een hamer dan kan hij een podium in elkaar timmeren anders zit het er niet in, of het moet een vreemde uitslag á la Baku 2017 worden.

Het eerste wapenfeit van Sainz laat nog steeds op zich wachten, beetje magertjes na drie seizoenen ,op zn zachtst gezegd..... Als de familie Sainz niet zoveel persvrindjes hadden was hij volgens mij al helemaal nooit in het nieuws want iets opmerkelijks heeft hij werkelijk nog niet gedaan...
