Frank Williams is 'Persoonlijkheid van het Jaar' volgens de BBC

Frank Williams is door de BBC gekozen tot de 'Persoonlijkheid van het Jaar'. De Brit kreeg de Helen Rollason Award uitgereikt voor zijn doorzettingsvermogen en datgene wat hij heeft bereikt ondanks zijn 'handicap'.

Williams runt nog altijd zijn Formule 1-team ondanks dat hij sinds 1986 al in een rolstoel zit en voor de helft verlamd is. "Ik zou alles zo weer opnieuw doen als ik jonger geweest zou zijn", vertelde Williams toen hij de award in ontvangst nam. "Ik zou zeker niet anders te werk zijn gegaan als ik nu heb gedaan."

Williams keek meteen terug op de historie van het team en vertelde over zijn mooiste jaren. "Onze eerste Grand Prix-overwinning was in Silverstone in 1979 voor ons thuispubliek. Daarna was ons hoogtepunt natuurlijk onze eerste titel in 1980 die gewonnen werd door Alan Jones. In die dagen maakte mijn huidige partner Patrick Head echt 's werelds beste raceauto's."
