Pirelli past banden aan om inhalen te bevorderen

Pirelli gaat proberen een compromis te zoeken waarbij inhalen makkelijker wordt gemaakt, maar waarbij de coureurs ook tevreden gehouden worden. Dat heeft de motorsportbaas van het Italiaanse merk, Mario Isola, verteld aan RACER.

Vorig seizoen werden nieuwe regels met betrekking tot de aerodynamica geïntroduceerd, zodat de bolides visueel aantrekklijker en moeilijker te besturen werden. Inhalen werd echter wel lastiger, mede door de introductie van bredere banden. Het aantal inhaalacties daalde flink in 2017 en volgens Isola hebben de prestaties van de banden daar ook redelijk wat invloed op gehad. Teruggaan naar hoge slijtage is echter niet wat de coureurs willen, zo zegt de Italiaan.

"Inhalen is een ander verhaal, want we weten hoe moeilijk het is om met de huidige aerodynamica iemand te volgen en in te halen. Je kan erg laat remmen en dat maakt het lastig. Hogere snelheden betekenen ook dat de ideale lijn smaller wordt, dus we proberen de situatie rondom het inhalen te verbeteren door de banden sneller te laten slijten. Dat houdt in dat auto's op oudere banden langzamer zullen worden, maar je wil de slijtage ook niet over de top jagen. Dan maak je de coureurs weer geïrriteerd, omdat ze op de limiet willen rijden. Zeker als ze aan het jagen zijn en proberen in te halen. Als ze dan teveel snelheid verliezen, is het niet goed voor hun en voor de show."

"Dat is een balans en een compromis dat lastig te vinden is, maar we werken aan compounds die iets sneller slijten. Dat houdt wel in dat het lineaire slijtage is en geen oververhitting van het loopoppervlak. Dat laatste haten coureurs, omdat ze snelheid verliezen als ze aanzetten. Bij lineaire slijtage geldt: hoe langer je een band gebruikt, hoe meer prestaties je verliest. Dat is iets waar ze mee vooruit kunnen en rekening mee kunnen houden."

Wat een leuterverhaal van Pirelli. Klinkt héél Italiaans. Door de verandering in aerodynamica kunnen auto's niet meer dicht achter hun voorganger rijden waardoor inhalen moeilijker is. Een probleem wat in de hoofdzaak door aerodynamica wordt veroorzaakt kun je niet met andere banden oplossen.

  Op de limiet rijden kunnen ze niet en niet alleen om de banden maar ook brandstof dus ik zeg die regel ook afschaffen om het inhalen te bevorderen

  Door de 3 motorenregel gaan ze nog minder op de limiet rijden, allemaal berekenend rijden dat is wat de FIA graag wil met hun rare regeltjes en gridstraffen pfff

  Geïrriteerd raken is goed @Caramba, daardoor gaan de zwakke broeders fouten en brokken maken.

lineaire slijtage, dat is wat ik ook wil zien ja. Bij een bandenfluisteraar met wat minder tijdverlies per ronde dan bij een wildebras. Een topcoureur die netjes en constant zijn ronden rijdt mag van mij meer voordeel krijgen door de banden.

Door de regels die in 2017 zijn ingevoerd rijden F1 auto's snellere rondetijden dan voorheen, maar het gevolg is dat inhalen moeilijker is geworden. Ik geef de voorkeur aan iets minder snellere ronden met meer inhaalacties. Dat maakt het veel leuker.

Als je dat dan d.m.v. de banden voor elkaar wil krijgen, maak ze dan juist harder i.p.v. zachter. Dan slijten ze wel langzamer, maar hebben ze minder grip. Minder grip maakt het voor de coureurs moeilijker om sneller door de bocht te gaan. Daar kunnen de goede zicht van de slechte onderscheiden en dat is precies wat we willen zien.

Maak het verschil tussen de oude banden en nieuwe veel groter ,zodat het te overwegen is om nieuw rubber te halen nu verliezen ze 20sec en in de tijd dat ze terug aan sluiten zijn ze terug versleten en dus niet meer kunnen inhalen, geef een band 2 compounds waarmee je 15 ronden supersnel kunt rijden en daarna 5sec tragere compound terug voor 15 aan 20 ronden op dezelfde banden ,Hoe gekker je rijd Hoe vlugger je aan de trage laag komt

Die aerodynamica heeft ervoor gezorgd dat inhalen nog stukken moeilijker werd !
De banden waren niet het probleem hoor...de slijtage was bij alle variaties te weinig
