FOTA gaat door met Martin Whitmarsh als voorzitter

Teamverbond FOTA breekt de intentie om elk jaar een nieuwe voorzitter te installeren. Autosport meldt dat McLaren-teambaas Martin Whitmarsh ook volgend jaar aan het roer staat bij de vereniging van teams. Whitmarsh nam vorig jaar de leiding over van Luca di Montezemolo.

Over de vervanging van Whitmarsh deden veel geruchten de rondte. Zo zouden Ross Brawn van Mercedes GP, Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner en Williams-directeur Adam Parr in beeld zijn voor de rol van FOTA-voorzitter. Door de solide progressie van de FOTA dit jaar, met onder andere een nieuwe Resource Restricton Agreement om verdere kostenbesparingen door te voeren, wijkt het teamverbond echter af van het standpunt om elk jaar een nieuwe voorzitter aan te stellen. Een andere oorzaak voor dit besluit is dat de grote favoriet Brawn geen trek had in de positie. De verwachting is dat de FOTA Whitmarsh als voorzitter voor 2011 en de continuering van de structuur met sportieve, commerciële en technische werkgroepen in de eerste weken van januari bevestigt.
