De twee geboortedagen van de oprichter van Ferrari

Het is 120 jaar geleden dat Enzo Ferrari werd geboren. Het bijzondere is dat hij pas twee dagen na zijn geboorte officieel geregistreerd is. Door hevige sneeuwval was eerdere registratie niet mogelijk geweest. Enzo Anselmo Ferrari werd op 18 februari 1898 geboren en pas op 20 februari geregistreerd.

Op 10-jarige leeftijd bezocht Enzo Ferrari samen met zijn broer Alfredo en hun vader voor het eerst een race, in Bologna. Het autosportvirus had hem toen te pakken. Na zelf een aantal jaar geracet te hebben richt hij in 1929 in Modena de Scuderia Ferrari op.

In 1931 beëindigt Enzo Ferrari zijn actieve loopbaan als coureur en stort hij zich volledig op het leidinggeven aan zijn eigen team. Bijna negentig jaar na de oprichting is Ferrari een van de bekendste automerken ter wereld en sowieso het bekendste Formule 1-team.

Enzo Ferrari overleed op 14 augustus 1988 op 90-jarige leeftijd.

      Ayrton Senna is in 1994 overleden en op 30 september 1997 gereïncarneerd.

    Ook geboortedag van coureur Stephen South (66). Niet heel glorieus oveigens: 1 inschrijving, GP van USA-west 1980 in de Marlboro McLaren M29C ter vervanging van de eerder dat jaar gedebuteerde Alain Prost. Prost had tijdens de voorgaande GP (Zuid-Afrika) zijn pols gebroken, vandaar. South kwam niet door de kwalificatie, en dat was tevens einde F1 carriere.
    Ook opmerkelijk: 1980 was het jaar waarin 3! Amerikaanse GP's op de kalender stonden.

      Geen idee. Het verhaal gaat dat Lotus hem een aanbod deed, hetgeen hij afsloeg omdat ie dacht dat dit zijn F2 carriere in de weg zou zitten, waarna Colin Chapman zich tot ene Nigel Mansell richtte.

    Zo bizar is het helemaal niet, die twee geboortedata. Bijv. veel Surinamers van de eerste generatie die niet in Paramaribo geboren werden hebben dit ook door soortgelijke redenen (in het geval van weersomstandigheden zal het vast niet om sneeuw gegaan zijn).
