Ecclestone onderscheiden voor verdiensten in autosport

Bernie Ecclestone is door de British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) in het zonnetje gezet. De voormalige commerciële baas van de Formule 1 heeft een gouden medaille in ontvangst mogen nemen. Ecclestone kreeg de onderscheiding vanwege zijn inzet voor en verdiensten in de autosport in de afgelopen decennia. Begin vorig jaar moest de 87-jarige Brit wijken nadat Liberty Media een meerderheidsaandeel in de Formule 1 had genomen.

Bernie Ecclestone was meer dan veertig jaar lang de kapitein op het schip dat Formule 1 heet en transformeerde de sport in een wereldwijd bekend merk. Aan dat tijdperk kwam begin 2017 een einde.
