Sauber hanteert nieuw aerodynamisch concept bij C37

Sauber heeft bij de ontwikkeling van de C37 gekozen voor een nieuw aerodynamisch concept. Technisch directeur Jorg Zander heeft dat verklaard bij RACER, terwijl hij bij Motorsport-Total.com uitleg gaf over de veranderingen.

Dinsdag presenteerde Sauber de C37, die het team in 2018 weer richting het middenveld moet helpen. Opvallend zijn de nieuwe neus, waarbij gekozen is voor een oplossing die Force India al enkele jaren hanteert, terwijl ook de fairing op de 'halo' en de luchtinlaat bij de motorkap opvalt. Al deze nieuwigheden zijn toe te schrijven aan de verandering in filosofie, zo verklaart Zander. "Onze bolide voor 2018 is het resultaat van het harde werk van de afgelopen maanden. De C37 heeft een geheel andere filosofie in vergelijking met de C36. Het aerodynamische concept is flink aangepast en de bolide heeft meerdere nieuwigheden. We geloven dat dit nieuwe concept ons meer ruimte biedt om verbeteringen door te voeren gedurende het seizoen."

"Er zijn grote aanpassingen gedaan aan de neus en de voorvleugel. Verder is de wielbasis verlengd. De vooras is verder naar voren geplaatst, waardoor er meer ruimte is voor luchtgeleiders. Dat zal onze aerodynamische prestaties duidelijk verbeteren. Het bodywork om de nieuwe koeling is erg compact geworden. De ontwerpafdeling heeft daar veel werk aan besteed."

Sauber zal in 2018 weer met de nieuwste specificatie van de Ferrari-motor uitkomen, nadat de C36 vorig seizoen aangedreven werd door motoren van een jaar oud. Mede daardoor werden er slechts vijf punten behaald door het Zwitserse team, dat dit jaar steun krijgt van Alfa Romeo. Zander: "De nieuwste Ferrari-motor zal onze prestaties ook een steun in de rug geven. We nemen niet alleen de motor van Ferrari af, maar ook de achterwielophanging komt daar vandaan. De dempers moesten we daarom veertig millimeter naar achteren verplaatsen. We hopen dat we progressie maken met de C37 en dat we competitiever zijn dan in 2017."

Ze hebben tot nu toe in ieder geval de "innovatie prijs" gewonnen wat mij betreft, leuk.

Al hebben ze op een aantal vlakken, zoals de vorm van de sidepots naar achteren toe, nog steeds een vrij conservatieve vorm. Hopelijk brengt het hen een stap verder, al vind ik hun innovaties zelf bijzonder rommelig overkomen en twijfel er aan of ze hiermee niet een veel te complex chassis hebben ontworpen dat doorontwikkelen erg moeilijk maakt vanwege onvoorspelbare luchtstromen.

Volgens mij kun je over Sauber de gehele dag topics plaatsen over wat er nieuw is aan de auto....die van vorig jaar stond al 2 jaar stil in ontwikkeling.

  @DutchF1 ; haha inderdaad. Nieuwe sponsoren etc... Alfa Romeo lijkt een hoop deuren te hebben geopend voor Sauber.
  
  Wel goede zaak trouwens ; het zou gewoon tof zijn, als dit team mee kan doen voor de plekken in de midden sector!

  Het is de mooiste tot nu toe, gevolgd door die van RBR, maar dat is alleen maar vanwege de RBR-livery (die kan alleen maar lelijker). En natuurlijk, over smaak valt te twisten.

Sauber is een kleine Ferrari aan het worden. Ze zullen zoveel mogelijk techniek bij Ferrari weghalen. Met de nieuwste spec motor en delen chassis etc is het best interessant hoever ze komen dit jaar. Natuurlijk in de achterhoede maar de motor is waarschijnlijk sneller dan de RB/renault/macl en TR.
