Prijzengeld in 2017 met bijna 50 miljoen gedaald

De tien Formule 1-teams hebben vorig jaar een totale prijzenpot van 919 miljoen dollar mogen verdelen. Dat is 47 miljoen dollar minder dan in 2016, zo blijkt uit de jaarcijfers die Liberty Media gepubliceerd heeft. De totale omzet van de Formule 1 bedroeg in 2017 zo'n 1.784 miljoen dollar, een daling van 1 procent ten opzichte van de 1.796 miljoen dollar van een jaar eerder.

Het operationele resultaat ging ook achteruit, van een winst van 47 miljoen dollar naar een verlies van 37 miljoen dollar. Liberty Media wijst daar meerdere factoren voor aan. Zo hebben twee sponsors hun contract met de Formule 1 niet verlengd, wat deels is opgevangen door de komst van één nieuwe geldschieter. En de inkomsten vanuit de races lagen lager, omdat er één evenement minder op de kalender stond dan in 2016 en omdat Brazilië een korting had bedongen.

De drie voornaamste inkomstenbronnen voor de Formule 1 zijn de fees die Grand Prix-organisatoren betalen, de televisiegelden en de inkomsten uit sponsoring en advertenties. Het aandeel van de fees in de inkomsten ging in 2017 met 7 procent omlaag, terwijl de televisiegelden en de sponsorinkomsten juist een groter aandeel hadden in de omzet.

Formule 1-baas Chase Carey ziet de toekomst met vertrouwen tegemoet. "Het seizoen 2017 was succesvol wat betreft het aantrekken van meer kijkers en volgers op televisie en op digitale platformen. In 2018 blijven we gefocust om de fans meer bij de sport te betrekken door een uitgebreidere aanwezigheid op lineaire en digitale platformen, de opwinding van de race te vergroten, meer F1 Live-evenementen te organiseren en samen te werken met onze partners. We kijken uit naar de start van het nieuwe seizoen later deze maand in Melbourne."

Ben benieuwd welke contracten er eigenlijk dit of komend jaar aflopen van de circuit eigenaren...en of die dan nog verlengd gaan worden.

binnen een jaar van 47 Miljoen winst naar 37 miljoen verlies..... Dat doe je goed Chase !! 84 Miljoen naar de kloten. en dan zeggen... we zijn op de goede weg.

  Het eerste jaar is meer een gevolg van beleid uit het verleden. Politici maken ook altijd goede sier met de vruchten van het beleid van hun voorgangers.

  Rickie heeft hierin gelijk...... Die verliezen komen vanuit het verleden en daar moet LM nu nog even mee handelen..... Sowieso kun je na een jaar helemaal niet stellen dat LM het slecht doet..... Dat kun je pas over een aantal jaren beoordelen....

en dat wordt alleen maar minder, zonder Ecclestone (een briljant handelaar.. ), zo als iemand zei over hem, een normale halndelaar haalt 50 % uit z,n deel, een goede 80 % maar Bernie zit tegen de 100% aan..

  Leuk voor de korte termijn maar voor de lange termijn gaat het ook over andere zaken dan winst nú. Geld, geld en geld, daar was Ecclestone goed in aan het einde.
  
  Laten we maar eens afwachten of er geld uit andere bronnen zoals hun online platform gaat komen. Ik leg wel in als het inderdaad om de bedragen gaat waar zij het nu over hebben. Als er zo nog een paar miljoen denken is die winst uiteindelijk hoger.
  
  Als ze de competitie eerlijker kunnen maken door de budget cap en met meer teams mooiere acties kunnen krijgen wordt die paar miljoen ook nog meer.

  Tot dusver heeft bernie de F1 overeind weten te houden. Laat andere dat eerst maar nadoen. Ik geloof dat een bedrijf overeind houden gepaard gaat met impopulaire keuzes.
