Hülkenberg: "Volgens mij zitten we in een goede uitgangspositie"

Nico Hülkenberg heeft nog een halve testdag te gaan op vrijdag, maar na de donderdagochtend overheerste een tevreden gevoel bij de Duitser. In de Renault RS18 reed 79 ronden en noteerde de derde tijd van de sessie.

Over het geheel van de wintertest is Hülkenberg ook redelijk tevreden, ondanks de matige omstandigheden in de eerste week. "Ik ben behoorlijk tevreden met de test tot nu toe, vooral met hoe de auto ging. We hebben geen grote problemen gehad en de betrouwbaarheid is goed. Ook hebben we ons door het geplande programma gewerkt, wat positief en bemoedigend is. Volgens mij zitten we in een goede uitgangspositie", vertelde de Duitser aan de verzamelde media in Barcelona.

Ook de donderdagochtend verliep naar wens voor Hülkenberg. "We hebben met succes de auto rond kunnen laten gaan en veel kilometers kunnen rijden zonder enig probleem. Ik denk dat we een solide fundering gelegd hebben. Er komt natuurlijk nog veel meer tijdens het seizoen, maar ik het het gevoel dat onze snelheid en fundering prima zijn."

Een duidelijke doelstelling wil en kan Hülkenberg nog niet formuleren, maar hij denkt dat Renault hoge ogen kan gooien in het gevecht om de vierde plaats bij de constructeurs. "Het is te vroeg om tijdens de wintertests te zeggen wat een realistisch doel is. Ik zie dat er nog steeds drie topteams voor ons en het zal lastig worden die teams aan te vallen, maar ik ben geneigd te denken dat wij daarachter zitten. Dat zal niet met een comfortabele marge zijn, want er zijn teams die ons op gaan jagen."

Is er eigenlijk een team dat geen goed gevoel heeft tijdens de testdagen? Het begint echt tijd te worden dat het seizoen begint, wat een gelul in de ruimte allemaal.

  In australie zitten er weer een hele hoop nieuwe onderdelen op, en heeft elk team de data van deze test geanalyseerd. Dus er kan nog wel wat veranderen hoor

Geloof me: Dit zegt nog geen ruk, 0,600 voorsprong per rondje is waanzin, Never gonna happen, RB is zo nonchalant deze testen en dat vind ik een voordeel, Ze weten wat ze hebben en desnoods zeggen ze tegen Max:'' Rijd maar gewoon rond de tijden van Vettel anders gaan ze misschien verbetering zoeken in het mercedes kamp''.
