Force India dient als voorbeeld voor wederopstanding Sauber

De afgelopen twee seizoenen eindigde Sauber als laatste in het kampioenschap voor constructeurs. Aan de hand van nieuwe partner Alfa Romeo wil de Zwitserse renstal zich graag verbeteren en Force India moet in dat proces als voorbeeld dienen voor het team van Frederic Vasseur.

De parallellen tussen Force India en Sauber zijn behoorlijk goed te trekken. Beide teams hebben een tijd lang goed gepresteerd (Force India als Jordan vlak voor de eeuwwisseling en Sauber van 2006 tot en met 2008 met partner BMW), maar raakten daarna in een diep dal. Force India werd in 2007 en 2008 laatste in het constructeurskampioenschap en klom daarna op naar de vierde plaats in 2016 en 2017. Sauber werd de afgelopen twee seizoenen dus laatste bij de constructeurs.

De Zwitserse renstal hoopt nu het pad van Force India richting de top te volgen. Dat moet gebeuren volgens hetzelfde principe als bij Force India: via de weg der geleidelijkheid. Dat heeft Vasseur in Barcelona gezegd. "Natuurlijk kan Alfa Romeo niet verwachten dat ze in zo'n situatie belanden. Ons doel is om terug te komen qua snelheid. We komen van ver, want vorig jaar waren we veel te langzaam. De eerste stap voor ons is om de aansluiting te vinden met de middenmoot. Dat moeten we stap voor stap doen."

"Dan worden we interessanter voor engineers en coureurs", vervolgt Vasseur. "We moeten ook realistisch blijven, want ik weet dat we tijd nodig hebben om te leveren en ons te verbeteren. Volgende week hoeven we nog niet te leveren, maar we moeten wel beter zijn dan we vandaag waren. In Bahrein willen we het beter doen dan in Melbourne. Dat moet de enige filosofie zijn binnen het team. Het is een project voor de middellange termijn, om aansluiting te vinden bij de middenmoot. Force India is een goede referentie wat dat betreft. Zij lagen ook ver achter, maar hebben iets sterks opgebouwd. De afgelopen drie seizoenen waren ze vijfde en vierde, maar het heeft ze tien jaar gekost om daar te komen."

Force India heeft er echter maar 1 jaar over gedaan (2009) om pole neer te zetten. Zie ik sauber niet doen

Lijkt me iedergeval dat als de top weer niet echt spannend is het middenveld wel zeer close racen wordt,, dus hopelijk plenty actie .... gekke Grosjean , fanatieke Alonso, Hulk, Perzez,Ocon... Wordt leuk....

  Tegen het einde van 2007 was het team al eigendom van Mallya en Mol, vanaf de Chinese GP als ik me niet vergis. Een naamswijziging was maar pas mogelijk vanaf seizoen 2008.
