Sochi: "Prioriteit ligt bij Olympische Spelen, niet de Formule 1"

De eerste Russische Grand Prix ooit zou wel eens uitgesteld kunnen worden. In 2014 staat namelijk de race gepland, maar in datzelfde jaar zullen ook de Olympische Winterspelen gehouden worden in en rondom de stad. Mochten de voorbereidingen elkaar beïnvloeden, zal de Formule 1 een jaar uitgesteld worden naar 2015.

Begin december vertelde Sochi's burgemeester Anatoly Pakhomov dat de Formule 1 verschoven kan worden naar 2015 als het Olympische committee vreest dat de voorbereidingen voor het grootste evenement ter wereld in het geding komen. Voorzitter van het committee, Dmitry Chernyshenko, vertelde tegen insidethegames.biz dat premier Vladimir Poetin voorrang geeft aan de Spelen. "De Olympische Spelen gaan voor."
