Renault-duo klaar voor het begin van nieuw seizoen

Na maanden van wachten en acht dagen testen is het bijna tijd voor de eerste race van het nieuwe Formule 1-seizoen. Volgende week gaat de jaargang van start met de Grand Prix van Australië op het circuit van Albert Park in Melbourne. Het team van Renault is in elk geval ergens de eerste mee, de Franse renstal heeft als eerste een persbericht om vooruit te blikken op een Grand Prix rondgestuurd.

Renault-coureurs Nico Hülkenberg en Carlos Sainz geven daarin aan dat ze staan te popelen om weer te racen. Hülkenberg: "Ik voel me positief. We hebben veel kilometers afgelegd en data verzameld tijdens de wintertests. Dat is geen vanzelfsprekendheid, dus dat was fijn om mee te maken. We hebben absoluut progressie geboekt. Niet alleen gedurende 2017, maar ook deze winter. Pas zaterdag na de kwalificatie in Melbourne weten we waar we staan. Ik ben klaar voor de uitdaging en opgewonden dat we weer gaan beginnen!"

Sainz voegt toe: "Ik ben er klaar voor! Als er één race is waar je volledig naar toe kunt werken, is het wel de Grand Prix van Australië. Je hebt maanden de tijd om erover na te denken en je ervoor op te laden, dus iedereen verschijnt tot op het bot gemotiveerd aan de start. Ik heb mijn best gedaan om de tijd deze winter te doden. Ik heb veel getraind, heb mijn opwachting gemaakt in de rally van Monte Carlo en ik heb genoten van de tests in Barcelona. Maar nu is de tijd voor het echte werk gekomen en zetten we lichaam en geest op scherp om de best mogelijke resultaten te behalen in 2018."

  Misschien als de eerste 6 op elkaar klappen de eerste bocht, Het kan(stroll verleden jaar) maar wordt heel moeilijk.

  @Meister: ten eerste doet er in de F1 geen coureur mee met de naam Saints en ten tweede onderschat je Hülkenberg zwaar. Afgezien van één race heeft hij vorig jaar zijn nieuwe teamgenoot gewoon het nakijken gegeven. Mocht de nieuwe auto van Renault goed genoeg zijn, dan acht de kans groter dat Nico er een podium mee rijdt dan die Spanjaard.

Het wordt hoog tijd voor zijn eerste podium.
Hij zal echter goed naast zich moeten blijven kijken want Sainz is snel en hongerig.

Ik verwacht net als @meister dat Nico voorbijgestreefd zal worden door Carlos. We vinden Nico allemaal wel zo'n fijne gozer maar mist ergens iets t.o.v. een Perez of Sainz.

  Zo, en wat zijn dan precies de hoogtepunten en/of opmerkelijke wapenfeiten van Sainz na 3 seizoenen?? Vraag me al jaren af waarom elke keer weer Sainz van die niet bewezen kwaliteiten toegedicht krijgt in de F1... Fanboys???

  Hülkenberg mist helemaal niets t.o.v. Sainz. Het is eerder andersom. Maar daar kom je dit seizoen vanzelf wel achter.

  Helemaal met je eens @Bschuit. Sainz heeft nog amper iets laten zien. Al die gebakken lucht zal op een keer moeten ontsnappen en dan loopt die Spaanse hype leeg als een lullig ballonnetje.
