Onderhandelingen Mercedes en Hamilton in januari hervat

Terwijl Ferrari-coureur Sebastian Vettel en Red Bull Racing-rijder Max Verstappen de contracten met hun werkgevers reeds verlengden tot en met 2020 - al bevatten die documenten ongetwijfeld ontsnappingsclausules voor het geval dat - is de contractverlenging van Lewis Hamilton bij Mercedes nog altijd niet beklonken. Dat lijkt een kwestie van tijd.

Mercedes-motorsportbaas Toto Wolff schetst de situatie: "We hebben voor de winterstop over een nieuw contract gesproken met Lewis. Tijdens de feestdagen hebben we dat wat laten liggen om een beetje los te komen van de Formule 1. In januari zijn de onderhandelingen vervolgens hervat. Het gaat de goede kant op. We moeten nog wat puntjes op de i zetten, maar ik denk dat we op korte termijn een akkoord zullen bereiken."

Hamilton is sinds vorig seizoen viervoudig wereldkampioen. Nog één titel en dan evenaart hij de legendarische Juan Manuel Fangio. Wolff: "Hoe belangrijk dat voor Lewis is, weet ik niet. Maar met vier wereldtitels op zak behoort hij al tot een select gezelschap. Natuurlijk wil hij voor een vijfde keer kampioen worden, maar ik vind het nooit verstandig om te veel op zoiets vooruit te lopen. Het is beter om achteraf terug te kijken op zulke prestaties."

Tuurlijk blijft hij bij Mercedes maar wat duurt dat altijd lang om zo'n contract dicht te timmeren .. ik denk dat hij nu wel de best betaalde coureur gaat worden .. volgens mij is dat nu nog Alonso?

    Hij kan alleen maar naar Ferreri, de rest zou achteruitgang betekenen.
    EN hij heeft al aangegeven loyaal te zijn aan zijn werkgever, dus met zon vaart zal het allemaal wel niet lopen.

      Lewis wil zelf niet. Heeft hij afgelopen winter zelf al verklaard.
      Dus dat hoeven we ons niet af te vragen. Gaat nu om hoe, wat, hoeveel en hoelang.

      Ferrari zou dol graag Hamilton hebben. Eindelijk een echte ster in de Ferrari, waarmee ze het merk weer kunnen promoten langs een coureur.

      Ik denk dat Alonso juist flink heeft moeten inleveren dit seizoen, die kreeg iets van 20 of 25 miljoen alleen al van Honda.

      Volgens F1i is de best betaalde rijder op dit moment....
      Vettel met $ 60 miljoen

      HAM zit op $50 miljoen
      ALO verdient op dit moment $30 miljoen, in 2017 was dat $40 miljoen

      Kobus ik denk dat Hamilton als je zijn persoonlijke sponsordeals erbij optelt nog een stuk hoger uitkomt. Door deals met o.a. Puma, Tommy hilfinger en Bombardier.

      Natuurlijk zal het totaalbedrag van alle rijders hoger zijn dan het pure salaris van de teams.
      Ik weet ook niet of in de bovenstaande bedragen eventuele bonussen zitten, allemaal wat onduidelijk.

    Wie weet krijgen we een stunt en vervangt Hamilton wel Kimi. De manier voor Ferrari om Mercedes te verslaan. Gewoon monsterlijk dik contract aan Lewis aanbieden vanuit Italië en Hamilton is niet bepaald bang voor Vettel. Vergezocht misschien maar er zijn gekkere dingen gebeurd.
