Investering in Grand Prix betaalt zich uit voor Abu Dhabi

In 2006 zette Abu Dhabi het licht op groen voor een investering van ongeveer 40 miljard dollar in de ontwikkeling van Yas Island, een kunstmatig aangelegd eiland waarop een Formule 1-circuit, een hotel, een pretpark en meer toeristische trekpleisters moesten verrijzen. Sinds 2009 is Abu Dhabi gastheer van een Grand Prix. De regering en sjeiks in het Emiraat pompen jaarlijks enorm veel geld in Yas Island, maar de investeringen betalen zich uit.

Dat betoogt Yas Marina Circuit-directeur Al Tareq Al Ameri tegenover Forbes. "De Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi is meer dan een race en biedt zowel op als naast de baan vertier. We gaan er prat op om zowel de lokale fans als de internationale bezoekers op hun wenken te bedienen. Daardoor komen mensen van over de hele wereld ons evenement bezoeken, het demografische plaatje is heel divers. Mannen en vrouwen, jong en oud, hardcore Formule 1-fans en gewone liefhebbers, met de meerderheid internationaal gezien vanuit West-Europa en Noord-Amerika."

"We hebben een significante toename van het aantal internationale bezoekers aan Abu Dhabi gezien. 60 procent van de verkochte kaarten gaat naar fans van buiten de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten. Niet alleen dat, maar ze verblijven langer in Abu Dhabi dan alleen het Grand Prix-weekend en spekken de economie. De Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi heeft zodoende een belangrijke activerende werking op internationale bezoekers en is van groot belang voor de uiteenlopende economische ambities van Abu Dhabi."

De Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi op Yas Marina Circuit vindt dit jaar op 25 november plaats.

Als je niet weet waarover je praat is het verstandig om niets te zeggen...

Je kan gewoon drinken in Abu Dhabi. In kroegen en restaurants is het vrij beschikbaar. Op terrasjes niet overal, maar op 90% van de terrassen wel. Je mag alleen niet drinkend met alcohol over straat, maar dat is NL ook zo... [Lees verder]

Lachwekkend ,alsof die 40 miljard met een F1 race terugverdiend zou kunnen worden... zelfs de spin-off , meer toeristen etc.. zet géén zoden aan de dijk... Hier in NL krijgen ze nog géén 20 miljoen bij elkaar.. Als die F1 zo,n goudmijn was had een investering van 20 miljoen géén enkel probleem geweest...

  Er gebeurt meer dan alleen 1 F1 race per jaar... Het circuit is 2x per week open waar je zonder licentie op mag rijden. Daarna nog vele local activiteiten.
  Ook worden er andere races opgehouden. Daarnaast is het alleen maar mooi als toeristen blijven hangen.

  LAPTOM Enig idee wat je moet doen om 40 Miljard terug te verdienen en dan winst te maken in een paar jaar tijd?
  Zelfs grote landen die een WK voetbal of Olympische Spelen houden en dergelijke investeringen doen draaien verlies, maar hebben het er voor over. En die landen hebben vele malen meer te bieden en het toerisme ligt vele malen hoger.
  Wat Abu Dhabi te bieden heeft is een beetje toerisme en veel olie.
  
  Waarschijnlijk moest hij dit zeggen van een of andere investeerder.

  @bear ik geloof niet dat die sjeiks wat kan schelen dat ze veel verlies maken, het gaat om exposure en de kans de wereld te laten zien hoe rijk ze zijn meer niet

Lezen mensen... Er staat dat de investering zich terug betaalt. Niet dat deze al terugbetaald is. Dat je dit soort zaken over een periode van 30 jaar bekijkt is normaal. Het gaat hier ook over geheel Yas, niet alleen de F1 race. Aangezien ergens de komende honderd jaar er een einde aan het olietijdperk komt is het zeer verstandig van dit land om zich op andere inkomstenbronnen te focussen en het verhaal dat ze daar nu al de vruchten van plukken klinkt volgens mij dan ook vrij logisch.

Het is natuurlijk niet F1 waar ze het geld mee terug verdienen, ze weten daar ook wel dat de olie op een dag op is, en dan valt er niets meer te verdienen, dus steken ze al hun geld in toerisme, en dat kan aardig wat opleveren op termijn. Vraag me alleen af of het slim is om meteen dit soort ridicule projecten neer te zetten.

  Ze hebben al redelijk wat geïnvesteerd in toerisme. Ook hebben de transport sector en de energie sector een flinke boost gekregen. Als de olie op is kunnen ze makkelijk overleven
