Dakar: Verhoeven komt één seconde tekort voor dagzege!

Frans Verhoeven heeft vandaag nét niet de vijfde etappe op zijn naam kunnen schrijven. De Nederlander ging op het midden van de route aan de leiding en bleef de leiders in het klassement Marc Coma en Cyril Despres ruim voor.

Uiteindelijk kwam Verhoeven één seconde tekort voor de dagzege. De Chileen Lopez Contardo schitterde voor eigen publiek en pakte zijn eerste zege van 2011. Marc Coma boog een grote achterstand om naar een knappe derde plaats op 1:40 minuten achterstand en Cyril Despres eindigde als vierde op 1:52 minuten.

Bij de auto's ligt momenteel Stephane Peterhansel aan de leiding bij checkpoint 10 van de 15. Leider Carlos Sainz staat op dit moment vierde op 3:39 minuten achterstand. Bij de trucks wordt het weer een gemakkelijke zege voor Kamaz. Firdaus Kabirov staat op dit moment aan de leiding, nog geen minuut voor klassementsleider Vladimir Chagin.
