Oud-coureur John Miles op 74-jarige leeftijd overleden

Oud Formule 1-coureur John Miles is gisteren overleden. Miles debuteerde in Frankrijk 1969 namens Lotus in de koningsklasse van de autosport. In totaal kwam hij in vijftien inschrijvingen tot twaalf Grand Prix-starts. Zijn enige twee punten scoorde hij in 1970 in Zuid-Afrika.

Het fatale ongeluk van Jochen Rindt op Monza in 1970 greep hem zwaar aan en Miles voelde zich niet senang met het ideaalbeeld dat Lotus-teambaas Colin Chapman voor coureurs had. In 1971 was hij nog testrijder voor BRM. Later werkte hij als engineer op de straatauto-afdeling van Lotus.

Miles is 74 jaar geworden. De gedachten gaan uit naar zijn nabestaanden.
