Mercedes is suprematie op gebied van de aandrijflijn kwijt

Mercedes staat niet meer alleen bovenaan de voedselketen als het gaat om Formule 1-motoren. De Duitse autofabrikant moet Ferrari tegenwoordig naast zich dulden. Mercedes is er deze winter niet in geslaagd om meer vermogen uit de krachtbronnen te peuteren. De kracht van de motor is gelijk gebleven ten opzichte van vorig jaar. Op zich ook een knappe prestatie, gezien de langere levensduur van de motoren, maar Ferrari is er wel in geslaagd om extra pk's aan te boren.

Zodoende doet de Scuderia qua motorvermogen dus niets meer onder voor Mercedes. Volgens Auto Motor und Sport is er een aanwijsbare oorzaak voor de stagnatie bij Mercedes. De Duitse autofabrikant heeft voor de Grand Prix van Bahrein besloten om minder olie als brandstof te verbranden. Mercedes maakt nu weer gebruik van een oliespecificatie uit het jaar 2016, om maar aan de veilige kant te blijven.

Teams mogen dit seizoen namelijk maar 0,6 liter per 100 kilometer verbruiken en de internationale autosportbond FIA ziet daar streng op toe. Voor Bahrein zat Mercedes net als Ferrari met 0,58 liter tegen de grens aan, sinds Bahrein heeft de Duitse autofabrikant net als Renault en Honda een marge van 0,1 tot 0,2 liter ingebouwd. Voor Mercedes betekent het teruggrijpen op een oliespecificatie uit 2016 dat ze nog maar één nieuwe oliespecificatie mogen introduceren. Het aantal toegestane oliespecificaties per seizoen is immers maximaal drie.

Mercedes-motorsportbaas Toto Wolff legt uit: "De meetapparatuur om olieverbruik te meten is nog niet helemaal accuraat en precies. Wanneer je dan tegen de limiet aanhikt, kan het ook gebeuren dat je er soms overheen gaat. Dat wilden we niet riskeren, Mercedes kan zich niet veroorloven om illegaal bevonden te worden."

      Niemand beschuldigd Mercedes meer van oliestokerij praktijken lees het amper nog dus is BS dat volgens jou er daar nog zoveel over word gesproken. Het gaat om al die jaren ervoor dat ze met 2 vingers in de neus naar de WK's cruisden. Maar als Mercedes fan vind je dat niet erg natuurlijk.

    beter een honda nemen die van mij verbruikt dat nog niet op de 10000 km .
    is maar goed ook als je 500 km per dag rijd is dat 3 l per dag is wel erg veel he

    werd een keer tijd ook, En nu gaan ze het weer veranderen over 3 jaar? Dan vechten er waarschijnlijk nog meer teams mee en gaan ze het zooitje omgooien, Ze leren het ook nooit.

      Je zou een goed punt hebben ware het niet dat er onder de huidige regels nooit meer een ander team/fabrikant in zal stappen. En aangezien de huidige aandrijflijn wel als basis dient met een aantal standaard componenten en zonder MGU-H zal het qua verschillen wel meevallen.

      Na 3 Races is er inderdaad nog weinig over te zeggen.
      Wanneer het ook zo is dat zij inderdaad 7 races met een motor kunnen doen dan zeg ik, geweldig gedaan!

      Ferrari pakt het gewoon slim aan. De eerste races heel veel punten binnen halen, met in het achterhoofd dat ze later in het seizoen rustig een vierde motor in kunnen zetten, want éénmaal achteraan starten geeft voor hen niets. Ze rijden zo weer naar voren.

    Al dit geneuzel heeft mijns inziens niets maar dan ook niets meer te maken met de core business van de sport en dat is RACEN. Op deze manier wordt het een sport voor techneuten en rekenaars, en niet meer van de liefhebbers van 'gaan met die banaan'.

      Als je voor de categorie "gaan met die banaan" gaat kan je maar beter naar Nascar of Indycar gaan kijken...

      F1 is al vanaf het begin voor techneuten, trucs en nieuwigheden. Als F1 een eenheidsworst wordt, is het juist niet meer interessant voor de liefhebber.

      arie het is al jaaren een sport voor techneuten.
      de tijd van de kwalificatie motor, techneuten zorgden ervoor dat het blok precies 1 snel rondje kon doen.
      het tanken, breek me de bek niet open.

      @INFINITYG35 en @ROBERTOS: Dat weet ik wel, ik volg de F1 sinds 1974. Maar ik vind de invloed van de techniek, en daar reken ik ook zoiets als DRS bij mee, alsmaar groter worden. Nog een paar jaar en je kunt etalagepoppen in de auto's zetten en de hele race via een joystick regelen.
      Overigens, voor het eerst sinds tijden heb ik zondag naar een leuke race zitten kijken. Er was in het hele veld wel wat te beleven. En zo hoort het te zijn (nog afgezien van het feit dat Ferrari iedere race behoort te winnen LOL).
