Pirelli tevreden met de bandenselectie Grand Prix van China

Bandenfabrikant van de Formule 1, Pirelli, overweegt om vaker niet opeenvolgende compounds te selecteren voor races. Zij zijn erg tevreden hoe de selectie tijdens de Grand Prix van China heeft uitgepakt.

Verschillende strategieën mogelijk

Pirelli-directeur Mario Isola legt uit waarom zij in China kozen voor medium, soft en ultra soft en de super soft-compound schrapten voor de race. "Bij de bandenselectie voor China hadden wij eigenlijk alleen informatie van de test in Abu Dhabi die in januari was. Op basis van die gegevens zagen wij dat soft, super soft en ultra soft erg dicht bij elkaar lagen. Wij hebben toen tegen elkaar gezegd dat we een sprong in de selectie zouden maken waardoor er verschillende strategieën mogelijk zouden zijn", aldus Isola. Tussen de soft en de ultra soft zat 0,7 seconden en de andere kant op tussen soft en medium zat een vergelijkbaar verschil.

Vaker een compound overslaan

Volgens Pirelli kan dit wel eens vaker gebeuren: "Als we kijken naar Bahrein dan zien we dat soft en super soft niet heel dicht bij elkaar lagen. Wij verzamelen al deze cijfers en proberen op basis daarvan steeds betere bandenselecties te maken. Dat kan betekenen dat we een compound overslaan of juist niet."

Wat vind je precies erg dan? Het feit dat de banden een grote factor zijn???? Of begrijp jij je eigen bericht niet soms?

Tis erg dat we banden nodig hebben om een leuke race te hebben. Het was wel de juiste selectie natuurlijk.

  Moet je nagaan hoe leuk de race wordt als er alleen maar op velgen worden gereden. Banden zijn zo verschrikkelijk voor het kijkplezier! Ik mis die goede oude tijd dat we zonder banden reden, de geur van verbrand asfalt door ijzer maakte de races toch wel écht top.

  Wat wil je dan? Natuurlijk zijn de banden een belangrijke factor, noem eens een tijd in de F1 waar dat niet was?
  
  Het lijkt er op of velen maar lukraak overal tegenaan schoppen. DRS banden pitstops etc etc

Ik ben helemaal voor. Direct regelen zodat we na Frankrijk waar de compounds al gekozen zijn.

Dan pas gaat het leuk worden op de baan.
