Politiek getouwtrek in Catalonië geen gevaar voor Spaanse GP

Gonzalo Gobert, een Spaanse official van de internationale autosportbond FIA, spreekt tegen dat de toekomst van de Grand Prix van Spanje gevaar loopt. Het contract van Barcelona met de Formule 1 loopt na volgend jaar af, maar door de politiek onzekere situatie in Catalonië zou het evenement van de kalender kunnen vallen.

Niets van waar, benadrukt Gobert in gesprek met Radio Marca. "Als directielid van een andere circuit (Valencia, red.) kan ik jullie vertellen dat dit puur een administratieve kwestie is. Het betekent alleen maar dat iemand de sponsorbudgetten voor het Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya goed moet keuren."

"Formule 1-baas Chase Carey heeft gezegd dat Liberty Media zeer content is met de Spaanse Grand Prix op het Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya en andersom is het circuit zeer blij met de Formule 1. Ik twijfel er geen seconde aan dat er snel overeenstemming wordt bereikt over contractverlenging."

Het Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya staat sinds 1991 onafgebroken op de Formule 1-kalender.
