Teams nemen speciale achtervleugels mee naar Bakoe

Het circuit van Bakoe is een lastige baan voor de engineers van de teams. De vraag wat de ideale set-up is, is immers moeilijk te beantwoorden. Het circuit bevat een ontzettend lang recht stuk en daar heb je zo min mogelijk luchtweerstand voor een zo hoog mogelijke topsnelheid nodig. De baan bestaat echter ook voor een groot deel uit langzame bochten, waar downforce en grip belangrijk zijn.

De teams denken dat de sleutel bij de achtervleugel ligt, aangezien de meeste renstallen een speciale achtervleugel mee hebben genomen naar Azerbeidzjan. Het is een kwestie van compromissen sluiten tussen zo min mogelijk drag en zoveel mogelijk neerwaartse druk. Mercedes heeft een achtervleugel bij met een kartelrandje tussen de twee dwarselementen. Ook Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull Racing en Scuderia Toro Rosso (en waarschijnlijk de rest van het veld) hebben specifiek voor deze Grand Prix bestemde achtervleugels meegenomen. De vleugels lopen in veel gevallen gebogen, waarbij het vleugeloppervlak in het midden groter is dan aan de twee uiteinden richting de wing-end plates toe. De bedoeling is om in het midden, achter de motorkap, zoveel mogelijk downforce te genereren en bij de uiteinden zo min mogelijk rijwind op te vangen.

het was mooi geweest als de "normale" vleugel ernaast was afgebeeld zodat we de verschillen duidelijk konden zien.

Geeft natuurlijk wel weer mooi aan wat het allemaal niet mag kosten....misschien een maximum van het aantal soorten vleugels etc. instellen?

Off topic : Fia doet onderzoek naar de achtervleugel van Ferrari.
Volgens het Spaanse medium Marca gaat de FIA een onderzoek uitvoeren bij het team van Ferrari. Er kwamen geruchten dat de Italiaanse renstal door speciale engine maps op de achtervleugel meer downforce kan creëren.

Al eerder kwam de mysterieuze ‘flipper’ stuur van Sebastian Vettel naar buiten. “In China klonken beide Ferrari bolides heel vreemd in de bochten, de FIA heeft toen meteen besloten om een onderzoek uit te voeren. Het vermoeden is dat het team uit Maranello vanuit de motor extra lucht blaast over de achtervleugel”, aldus verslaggever Marco Canseco.

Ik vraag me af of het klopt over die downforce. Het zijn inderdaad allemaal langzame bochten, met 1 of 2 snelle bochten. Bij langzame bochten doet de downforce maar weinig. Waarschijnlijk zal de balans wel meer naar weinig dragen uitgaan.
