Niki Lauda na uitvalbeurt Valtteri Bottas: "Onbegrijpelijk dat er nog rommel op de baan lag"

Voor Mercedes-coureur Valtteri Bottas is de Grand Prix van Azerbeidzjan op een grote teleurstelling uitgelopen. De Fin wist de leiding na de stops te behouden en pakte bij de herstart meteen een voorsprong omdat Sebastian Vettel zich verremde. Drie ronden voor het einde sloeg het noodlot toe: Bottas reed op het lange rechte stuk over twee brokstukken van een andere auto heen en reed lek. Voor Bottas betekende het einde wedstrijd en voor de eerste keer dit jaar scoorde de Finse Mercedes-coureur geen punten.

Na afloop haalt Mercedes-bestuurder Niki Lauda hard uit naar de wedstrijdleiding, volgens de Oostenrijker had de wedstrijdleiding de wedstrijd pas vrij mogen geven nadat alle rommel van het circuit was verwijderd: "Ik kan niet begrijpen waar de wedstrijdleiding mee bezig was. Je ziet toch dat er nog rommel op de baan lag? Bovendien hadden ze genoeg tijd, maar in plaats daarvan geven ze de race te snel vrij en loopt de race voor Valtteri Bottas uit op een ramp. Mij rest enkel de vraag: als er zolang een Safety Car op de baan is kun je de rommel toch ook fatsoenlijk opruimen?"

Ondanks de uitvalbeurt van Bottas werd het toch nog een goede dag voor Mercedes: de Brits-Duitse renstal pakte met Lewis Hamilton de eerste overwinning van het seizoen. Door de vierde plaats van Sebastian Vettel is Lewis Hamilton nu ook de nieuwe leider in de strijd om het wereldkampioenschap.

De hele race verliep nogal "rommelig", zowel het VSC systeem als het 2e DRS activatiepunt waren kapot. En van die Marshalls daar, heb ik al helemaal geen hoge pet op, om over die regisseur nog maar te zwijgen. Verder gaat alles goed met me ;)

  Mis wel ja met een staande herstart. Was ook leuk voor de kijkers geweest. Feit is dat ze de rommel hadden moeten zien liggen en hadden moeten opruimen.

  hier kan bottas weinig aan doen. dat gaat zo snel en de baan was op die plek wat hobbelig dus hier kun je bottas niet de schuld van geven.

Groot gelijk, ze hadden alle tijd om daar de zooi op te ruimen, zeker na dat gepruts van Crashjean.

Vind het zowiezo gepruts dat het met een bezempje moet enzo, zet dan veegwegens klaar. Dit moet toch allemaal beter en sneller kunnen.

  Ze moeten deze race gewoon van de kalender halen, ongeschikt voor F1. Ik hoop dat de geruchten op Ziggo Sport waar zijn en dat contract inderdaad ontbonden wordt.

Coureurs waren op gegeven moment zelf aan het doorgeven waar er nog rotzooi lag. Bijvoorbeeld Sainz melden dit over de radio...links ligt nog een beetje, rechts ligt nog een beetje... Toen zag je ook mooi dat de marshal 1 stukkie oppakte en een groter deel twee meter verder liet liggen.
