Het team van Mercedes boekte zondag in Azerbeidzjan de eerste overwinning van dit seizoen. Die zege kwam een beetje uit de lucht vallen, aangezien Ferrari-rijder Sebastian Vettel de pole position voor zich opeiste en het eerste deel van de race controleerde. Valtteri Bottas reed echter veel langer door dan de Duitser en het geluk leek na een late safety car-periode aan zijn zijde. Niets bleek minder waar, de Fin reed een van zijn achterbanden aan flarden op brokstukken op de baan en teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton kreeg de winst in zijn schoot geworpen. Andrew Shovlin, engineer bij Mercedes, geeft tekst en uitleg over de strategie in Azerbeidzjan.
