Chase Carey: "Formule 1 wil contract met Barcelona 'voor altijd' verlengen"

Het Circuit de Catalunya is al sinds 1991 gastheer van de Formule 1 en als het aan Chase Carey ligt, dan blijft dat voorlopig ook het geval. De Formule 1-directeur zou het liefst voor altijd een contract af sluiten met het circuit, maar dat wil niet zeggen dat er geen alternatieven zijn. 

Meer circuits in Spanje

Komende week vindt voor de 28e keer de Grand Prix van Spanje plaats op het circuit in Barcelona. Liberty Media zou het liefst deze traditie voortzetten, maar er moet nog wel eerst onderhandeld worden over een nieuw contract. Carey maakt tegenover Spaanse journalisten gelijk duidelijk dat ook zij een goede onderhandelingspositie hebben: "Het is niet het enige circuit in Spanje. Binnenkort gaan we kijken of we een weg kunnen vinden dat ons beiden ten goede komt."

2019 loopt contract af

Het huidige contract loopt in 2019 af, maar het uitgangspunt is om de Grand Prix van Spanje gewoon in Barcelona te laten. "Het doel is om een nieuwe overeenkomst met Barcelona te sluiten. Wij willen nog lang in Barcelona blijven. Voor altijd? Ja, dat kan je bijna wel zeggen."

      Spanje is al jaren niet meer uitverkocht als alonso stopt komt er helemaal geen hond meer .

      Hockenheim en Nurburg waren ook al jaren niet meer uitverkocht. Schumi stopte en de overige Duitsers in de Formule 1 konden het volk niet voldoende bekoren. Maar misschien zijn de toegangsprijzen ook wel te hoog?

    Helaas is de race op Barcelona meestal saai omdat inhalen moeilijk is met de huidige config.

      Ik denk dat het in iedere configuratie moeilijk is met deze auto’s. Als ze het oude circuit zonder chicane pakken is een auto volgen in de laatste twee bochten nog moeilijker en kom je op het rechte stuk nog meer tekort.

      Motorland Aragon lijkt me beter voor een Spaanse GP. Ondanks dat t een typisch motorciruit is is het erg geschikt om in te halen met al die blinde bochten die van erg smooth overgaan naar haaks af. Als testcircuit mag t van mij wel eeuwig in Barcelona blijven.
