Carlos Sainz vol vertrouwen naar thuis Grand Prix in Barcelona

Carlos Sainz staat met het team van Renault voor zijn thuis Grand Prix en dat is voor iedere coureur speciaal. De afgelopen drie jaar wist hij ook continu in de punten te rijden met een zesde plek als beste klassering in 2016. Met een vijfde plaats vorige week in Bakoe gaat de Renault-coureur dan ook met vertrouwen richting Barcelona.

Aanmoedigingen geven een boost

Sainz: "Het is de meest speciale Grand Prix van het jaar voor mij. Het voelt zo anders dan alle andere races. Ik heb nu drie keer de Spaanse Grand Prix gereden en alle drie waren ze speciaal en ik heb hier ook goede resultaten behaald. Alle support die ik hier krijg werkt, het geeft gewoon een extra boost en met alle aanmoedigingen van de fans worden we erg sterk."

In Bakoe haalde Sainz zijn beste resultaat tot dusverre sinds hij bij het team van Renault zit: een vijfde plaats. "Het is een erg goed resultaat voor het team en voor mijzelf en we moesten er hard voor strijden. Nu moeten we vooruit kijken en alles in het werk stellen om ook een goed resultaat in Spanje neer te zetten.

Op zoek naar podiumplaatsen

Over het circuit zegt hij: "Het zijn drie behoorlijke verschillende sectoren, elk met een aantal snelle bochten. Het asfalt is nieuw dit jaar en dat maakt het nog interessanter. De tractie moet in de laatste sector goed zijn aangezien het erg smal is en er geen ruimte is voor fouten. Je moet zoveel mogelijk de binnenkant van de kerbs gebruiken om de kortste route te vinden." Uiteindelijk is het doel van Sainz om mee te strijden om podiumplaatsen: "Samen met het team werk ik hard om het maximale uit de Renault R.S.18 te halen en ik heb er vertrouwen in dat we het stap voor stap zullen bereiken."

Een thuis race is natuurlijk extra speciaal voor een coureur. Weer iemand of er SAI tribune is? Of is een eigen tribune weer een typisch hollands dingetje?

  @Silsur, ja er is een Sainz tribune. Hij heeft er zelf maanden reclame voor gemaakt, want de verkoop ging niet bijzonder snel.

  Er is een Sainz tribune. Die was dit jaar in één week uitverkocht.
  99 Euro, incl pet, shirt, enz. Vorig jaar heeft het heel lang geduurd,
  voordat ze alle kaartjes hadden verkocht.

  Net als in Nederland met Verstappen komt de massa voor F1 pas echt in beweging als de favoriet een redelijk goede wagen onder de kont krijgt. Inherent aan de sport. Aangezien Sainz nu met Renault wat meer power heeft dan met STR, zullen de fans wel komen.

Ik denk podium voor Carlos. Gewoon weer een knotsgekke race met uitvallers en straffen en uiteindelijk Vettel op 1, Bottas op 2 en Sainz op 3.
Max om onduidelijke reden gediskwalificeerd. Kennelijk omdat hij door een ander van de baan werd gereden en als hij daar niet had gezeten dan had die ander minder schade gehad. Zoiets kroms zal het wel zijn en het halve forum zal daar alle redelijkheid van inzien. :)

Zijn laatste race was een hele goede , maar in het algemeen ben ik niet zo onder de indruk van Sainz dit seizoen , dat rijst natuurlijk de vraag , is Sainz zo slecht of Hulkenberg zo goed , of ligt het ergens in het midden

  Sainz is beter dan Hulkenberg, ondanks de puntenstand. In ieder geval volgens de algemene manier van redeneren hier moet dat zo zijn, Verstappen is toch ook beter dan Ricciardo ondanks de puntenstand? ;)

RB moet uiterlijk eind juli de optie op Sainz lichten, dus als dit niet gebeurt is Carlos daarna vrij man en heeft hij geen enkele binding meer met RB.
Ik denk dat hij stilletjes hoopt dat hij bij Renault kan blijven.

  Dat denk ik ook....en Renault hoopt dat ook. Sainz is namelijk, behalve dan op dit forum, gewoon een heel goede rijder. Het begin was dit jaar iets minder dan dat van Nico, maar de laatste race was al een stuk beter. Renault wil hem dan ook niet graag zien vertrekken.
