Oliver Rowland hoopt op kans bij Williams Racing

Oliver Rowland, talent uit de stal van Williams Racing hoopt het team te kunnen overtuigen om hem een stoeltje voor het seizoen 2019 te geven. Rowland maakte vanmorgen zijn officiële testdebuut vanmorgen in Barcelona.

De Formule Renault 3,5-kampioen van 2015 is de afgelopen twee jaar ontwikkelingsrijder bij het team van Renault geweest maar stapte over naar Williams nadat bleek dat hij niet in aanmerking kwam voor een stoeltje in de Formule 1 dit jaar. Nu wil hij zijn kans grijpen als de gelegenheid zich voordoet bij de Britse renstal.

Valtteri Bottas als voorbeeld

Rowland vertelde Autosport.com: "We gaan kijken wat er mogelijk is, maar het is mijn taak om mijn uiterste best te doen. Kijk naar Valtteri Bottas toen hij hier was, hij deed hetzelfde. Hij kwam niet in aanmerking voor de race en focuste zich volledig op zijn rol als ontwikkelingsrijder hier. Daar kijk ik naar en ik ben Brits, dat helpt ook in een Brits team. We moeten een stap vooruit maken en ik hoop dat zij het met mij willen proberen."

Snelheid is belangrijk

Paddy Lowe van het team van Williams Racing zegt dat niet alleen het rijden van rondes voor de test van belang is: "Het is een mooie kans voor Oliver om ook te laten zien hoe snel hij is, want moeten niet vergeten hoe belangrijk dat is. Vervolgens kunnen we dat evalueren en dan is er nog de mogelijkheid om in Hongarije in juli wederom de test voor jonge coureurs te doen."

  Dat dacht ik nu ook... zo een talent is Oliver niet, in ieder geval niet beter dan Stroll en Sirotkin. En een vette sponsor heeft hij ook al niet.

Hoe goed een coureur ook is, de vraag blijft wat meer centen oplevert. Extra geld die een hoger eindklassement oplevert vs Stroll-geld.

Sinds papa Stroll er is gaat heel Willams team naar de klote. Die zoon van hem geeft onzin feedback waardoor team stil staat. Vandaag dat ze bijna het laatste team zijn op de grid.... Schande echt dat ze zich zo laten verneuken door het geld van de dikke walrus. Zo zonde....

Nooit eerder met dit hok gereden en 2 tiende sneller in testen als Stroll in kwalificatie, tiende van een seconde langzamer als beide stoeltjes bezetting van williams in de derde vrije training.

Wederom dat de grootste fout in de williams tussen stuur en rugleuning zit in de raceweekenden.
Vandaag in de tests niet stijf achteraan, maar achterin het middenveld, waar een subtopper met koelproblemen met een mercedesmotor moet kunnen staan.

Als de twee stuntpiloten in monaco ineens niet meer stijf achteraan staan mogen ze Rowland op de blote knietjes de schoenen kussen om te bedanken voor vinden van meer balans in de FW.

Rowland en Kubica klinkt als een goede update/upgrade voor Williams en heel hard nodig voor betere resultaten.
