Bandenleverancier Pirelli stelt eisen aan verlenging contract

Als de Formule 1 stopt om vooral met technische innovatie en uitdagingen bezig te zijn dan heeft bandenfabrikant geen interesse om het contract na 2019 voort te zetten. Dat zijn de woorden van Pirelli's grote baas Marco Tronchetti Provera.

Technologisch blijven ontwikkelen

De afgelopen maanden zijn Liberty Media en Pirelli in gesprek om het contract tussen de Formule 1 en de bandenleverancier te verlengen. Daarbij heeft Pirelli twee belangrijke eisen op tafel gelegd: het moet commercieel interessant blijven voor het bedrijf en de sport moet zich technologisch blijven ontwikkelen. Pirelli nam in 2011 de plaats in van Bridgestone en het contract met de Formule 1 loopt eind volgend seizoen af.

Verlengen of stoppen

Provera: "Zodra de Formule 1 een commercieel evenement gaat worden zullen wij ons terugtrekken, als het dezelfde weg als de afgelopen jaren blijft volgen dan zullen wij blijven. Het belangrijkste is dat de coureurs meer en meer de spil zijn van de sport." Over de banden zegt hij: "Ik denk dat de banden goed zijn als de coureurs blij zijn en het publiek is blij als de coureurs een uitdaging hebben."

Motorupgrades

Pirelli kreeg kritiek te verwerken over de hypersoft-compound in Monaco, er was sprake van enorme slijtage. De hypersofts zullen in Canada weer gebruikt worden en dat valt samen met de eerste motorupgrades van het seizoen. "We gaan in Canada zien of er verschillende scenari's mogelijk zijn met de tweede generatie motoren van dit jaar", zo sluit Provera af.

Ik ben om eerlijk te zijn niet echt fan van Pirelli, ze hebben vaak discutabele zaken die niet kunnen. Ik zou het niet erg vinden als Michelin of Bridgestone terugkomt.

Hoezo kritiek dat die hypersoft in Monaco geen verschil maakte wil niet zeggen dat hij dat op een ander circuit wel kan doen.

Ik wil graag meerdere verschillen in compounds zien die naar een race meegenomen worden zodat er verschillende strategieen mogelijk zijn en meer snelheidsverschillen

  als hierdoor de strategy door elkaar kan gooien bij teams omdat een bepaalde auto de banden meer slijt vind ik het prima er is al zoveel onevenwicht inde motor, in dit geval brengt meer evenwicht als mercedes niet met die banden om kan gaan.

Inderdaad, wat een kul dat de hypersofts zo enorm slijten. Diverse coureurs hebben er tientallen ronden op gereden. Mercedes en wat andere teams hadden veel meer slijtage, maar zochten in de interviews die ik las eerder de fout bij zichzelf dan bij Pirelli.

Laat teams zelf beslissen wat ze willen teams zouden dan de keuze hebben om 3 verschillende compounds te kiezen maar moeten deze dan ook alle drie gebruiken tijdens een gp

  @limbo, ik zou het graag zien, een tweede leverancier, een extra element. Niet ééntje die bepaalt hoe de banden moeten zijn, en ook nog voorstander is van 18 inch velgen.

Ach ja, want zaken die nu al op straatauto's zitten willen ze gaan introduceren in de F1 .. Daar gaat je verhaal over de sport die zich technologisch moet blijven ontwikkelen... De sport loopt achter als je 't mij vraagt ...

  Dat de sport achterloopt dat klopt . Ik rij al jaren in de zomer met een softband , soms supersoft, en wanneer het plenst rij ik even bij een tankstation langs om de bandenspanning weer op te hogen naar de gebruikelijke 12 volt.

Ene keer slijten de banden te langzaam, dan weer te snel. Ene keer zijn ze te hard en dan weet te zacht..

Ik herinner me 2012, toen Perez nog naar het podium reed in Canada juist omdat de banden zoveel verschilden en het van tevoren niet te zeggen was wat de beste strategie was. Laat dat maar terugkomen :)
