Kubica en Rowland testen voor Williams na Grand Prix Hongarije

Robert Kubica en Oliver Rowland komen namens het team van Williams in actie tijdens de tweedaagse Formule 1-test na de Grand Prix van Hongarije. Rowland zal tijdens deze testsessie het spits afbijten, waarna Kubica de Brit op dag twee vervangt.

Rowland maakte eerder dit jaar zijn Formule 1-debuut tijdens de test in Barcelona. Daar reed hij 121 ronden met Williams. De Brit, die later deze maand aan de start verschijnt van de 24 uur van Le Mans, mikt op een racestoeltje voor 2019. 

"De test is een nieuwe stap in de juiste richting voor mijn doel, namelijk de Formule 1", aldus Rowland. "Alles ging goed tijdens de test in Barcelona en het is goed om te weten dat ze me nog een kans geven en in me geloven."

"Ik ben me ervan bewust dat er niet veel momenten zijn om je talent te laten zien in de Formule 1. Het is een vrij exclusieve club, dus ik ga mijn uiterste best doen. Ik ga me volwassen opstellen; feedback en consistentie, in plaats van me druk maken over rondetijden."

Williams heeft het voorlopig lastig in 2018, maar volgens Rowland heeft het team er meer aan als hij rustig zijn testsessie afwerkt, in plaats van vol gas te geven. "We hebben aardig wat werk te verrichten om het team terug te krijgen waar het hoort, dus in plaats van de held uithangen, is het belangrijk om de engineers precies te geven wat ze willen."

Toch opvallend: Sirotkin, Rowland en Kubica zijn allemaal afgewezen bij Renault en zitten nu bij Williams.....

    Ik zat te denken, is Rowland geen goede kandidaat om Hartley te vervangen bij STR? Wat vinden jullie?

      In het kader van jong zeker, of hij talentvol is, volgens RedBull traditie, geen idee. Ben bang dat het niet heel veel meer brengt dan dat Hartley nu doet.

    Helaas voor Rowland is vol gas dit jaar bij Williams als rustig te benoemen.
    Bizar om te lezen dat zo'n onervaren rijder te horen praten alsof hij alles al precies weet en dat overdraagt naar de engineers.
    Ik hoop het uiteraard van harte voor dit historische team. Succes ermee.

      Is niet zo bizar hoor. Hij weet gewoon hoe zo'n test werkt. Daarbij is het in andere klasses niet heel anders, ook daar moet je feedback geven over de auto etc.

      Denk je niet dat iemand met f1 ervaring beter van pas zal komen? Dus laat bijvoorbeeld Massa een dag rijden? Of van mijn part Rosberg? Mannen met veel ervaring en kennis van de huidige aandrijflijnen.
      Misschien zit ik er ook compleet naast met mijn bewering over Rowland, komt wel apart over zo'n rookie die een kostbare dag moet gaan rijden voor input die de huidige rijders niet kunnen geven gezien de matige prestaties en geen verbetering.

      Denk je níet dat het uit zijn mond politiek geklets is em dat hij gerteld wat ze bij wiliams willen horen.

      Naast de auto heel houden wil hij best zijn talent laten zien alleen je kan wel heel snel zijn als coureur, wanneer je niet het talent hebt om de auto heel te houden heeft zo'n team weinig aan je
