Vettel geeft uitleg over 'dramatische banden' in Monaco

Sebastian Vettel heeft uitleg gegeven over zijn opmerking na afloop van de Grand Prix van Monaco. De Duitser had het op de radio over 'dramatische banden', waarmee hij naar eigen zeggen doelde op de kwetsbaarheid van de Pirelli-banden in het prinsdom.

Volgens Vettel waren de banden in Monaco veel slechter dan voorheen. “Het is jammer, ook als je het vergelijkt met vorig jaar", aldus de Ferrari-rijder. "In Monaco moet je altijd een beetje op je banden letten, aangezien je de auto's voor je niet echt in kunt halen, maar dit jaar was het extreem met de banden. Niemand kon pushen."

Het feit dat er amper druk gezet kon worden, is volgens Vettel dan ook de bron van zijn ergernis over de radio. Toch is de Duitser niet direct bang dat het ook in Canada mis zal gaan. "In dat opzicht was het denk ik eenmalig, maar ik denk wel dat de banden dit jaar gevoeliger zijn dan vorig jaar."

Vettel mag zijn borst natmaken voor de Grand Prix in Canada, want dit weekend heeft Pirelli dezelfde bandencompounds meegenomen als twee weken geleden in Monaco. "Het is een andere baan, verschillend van aard. Normaal gesproken verschilt het hier per band, maar we zullen zien. Vrijdag wordt belangrijk. Qua weer moeten er geen problemen zijn, want dat is constant. We zullen zien wat we ervan kunnen maken."

Als ze gewoon een extra pitstop hadden gedaan dan hadden ze wel kunnen pushen. Spijtig genoeg zijn de teams te voorzichtig en te bang om een risico te nemen. Mij leek het wel haalbaar om met een verse band in te halen. Zeker als je ziet dat max ook vlot voorbij de tragere tegenstanders ging. Soft banden horen snel te slijten dus stop met zagen mr Vettel.

  Kunnen pushen vanaf p6 in Monaco want daar waren ze terecht gekomen....zonder de mogelijkheid in te halen.
