Hamilton blij met nieuwe Mercedes-motor in Frankrijk

De veelbesproken upgrade van de Mercedes-motor heeft haar vuurdoop gehad tijdens de eerste vrije trainingen voor de Grand Prix van Frankrijk. Lewis Hamilton was in beide sessies de snelste en was na afloop blij met de nieuwe motorconfiguratie.

Mercedes zou eigenlijk in Canada de nieuwste versie van haar motor introduceren, maar stelde dat toen uit nadat er een fout gevonden werd. De race in Montréal viel tegen voor Hamilton, die daar de WK-leiding verloor aan Sebastian Vettel. In Frankrijk ligt de nieuwe motor wél achterin de Mercedes W09. Hamilton vierde dat door in beide sessies de snelste tijd te klokken.

'Frisse motor, lastig circuit'

"De nieuwe motor voelt fris, maar we weten pas waar hij staat als iedereen op vol vermogen gaat rijden", zei Hamilton na afloop van de vrijdag. "Ik ben blij met het harde werk uit Brixworth. Al met al waren de sessie goed vandaag. Het is een schitterend gebied en altijd een uitdaging als je op een nieuw circuit aankomt. Je leert constant nieuwe dingen en ik hou van de uitdaging om eerder in het juiste ritme te komen dan de rest."

Het Circuit Paul Ricard heeft buiten het asfalt geen grindbakken, maar blauwe en rode lijnen met wegdek dat extra grip geeft. Dat maakt het inschatten niet makkelijker volgens Hamilton. "Je kan veel lijnen nemen en het is lastig om goede referentiepunten te vinden. Mede door de kleurige lijnen is het lastig te zeggen waar je bent. Op een aantal plaatsen is het ook lastig te zien waar de bocht is."

Hamilton zit er meteen goed bij. Heb de trainingen goed bekeken. Bottas gaat erg strak. Pole mogelijk voor Valteri

  Denk eerder voor Hamilton of misschien Vettel. Bottas zou kunnen, maar het ligt eraan welke banden ze gaan gebruiken. Heeft Pirelli dit weekend niet weer die dunnere banden meegenomen?

Ferrari had het al een beetje lastig tegen een 7 oude race motor....

Ik ben bang dat dit een gruwelijke moker slag van Mercedes gaat worden :(

Hopelijk heb ik het mis en word en een onvoorspelbare race met onverwachte uitslag maar alles wijst alweer op een onverslaanbare Mercedes weekend.

Weer wordt Ferrari flink onderschat. ik geef ze de beste kansen voor pole en de zege.

  Hamilton en Vettel hebben beide maar 1 setje soft banden.
  De super soft ging bij Vettel maximaal 27 rondjes mee en de ultrasoft bij Kimi 16 rondjes.
  De race is over 53 rondjes, voor een 1 stopper heb je dan echt de soft nodig.
  En die moeten ze dan ook nog even "voelen"in fp3.
  
  Ik denk dat dit Vet en Ham op gaat breken.

  Ik lees net het weerbericht op Meteo France en zij verwachten onweersbuien met kans op hagel.
  Toch de winterbanden maar weer van stal?

  @hugoboss met deze wagens kan alleen degene winnen met een wagen die beter is als de andere. De wagens gaan zo snel en zitten gewoon op de limiet. Met deze aerodynamische configuratie is het onmogelijk om kort achter een topper te rijden en het verschil te maken door de rijder.

Joh wat ik al eerder ergens zei Max had nog de spec 1 achterin zitten tijdens vt 1 en 2. Maar eens zien wat vt3 en kwali brengt.
