Fernando Alonso op scherp na motorwissel

Fernando Alonso begint de kwalificatie voor de Oostenrijkse Grand Prix met een verse turbo. McLaren en Renault hebben het onderdeel voorafgaand aan de derde vrije training vervangen. Door het installeren van het nieuwe onderdeel komt Alonso op scherp te staan betreft het maximaal aantal te wisselen motoronderdelen in het seizoen.

Bij een volgende wissel krijgt Alonso zijn eerste gridstraf van het seizoen. Waarschijnlijk rijdt Alonso de rest van het weekend ook met de nieuwe versie van de MGU-H, die Renault voorafgaand aan het weekend op de Red Bull Ring beschikbaar stelde aan alle teams met Renault-motoren. Of de nieuwe onderdelen Alonso iets zullen brengen is niet duidelijk, vooralsnog beleeft McLaren een slecht weekend op de Red Bull Ring.
