Horner: "Liberty wil nog altijd een race in Londen"

Liberty Media heeft nog altijd het plan om een Formule 1-race te organiseren door de straten van Londen. Dat stelt Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner in gesprek met Autosport. De Britse Grand Prix wordt momenteel georganiseerd op Silverstone, maar dat contract loopt door een clausule na 2019 af. Londen blijft een optie als vervanger.

Silverstone had een contract om de Formule 1 ook na 2019 te organiseren, maar afgelopen jaar koos de organisatie ervoor om een clausule te activeren waardoor de editie van volgend seizoen de laatste is onder voorwaarden van het huidige contract. Er is nog niet gesproken over een nieuwe verbintenis, waardoor het mogelijk is dat de Formule 1-race op Silverstone van komend seizoen voorlopig de laatste is op die locatie.

Horner houdt hoop dat de Formule 1 Silverstone niet uit het oog verliest. "Ik zie Silverstone als de thuisbasis van de Britse autosport", aldus Horner. "De baan is geweldig en de weg naar het circuit is inmiddels uitstekend. Dan is er nog het aantal Britse fans dat naar de Grand Prix komt, ik denk dat we weer een uitverkocht huis hebben."

"Ik denk dat Liberty de wens heeft om een race door de straten van Londen te organiseren en in een ideale wereld kunnen we beide races behouden. Dan hebben we de Britse Grand Prix op Silverstone en een straatrace in Londen. De competitie op de kalender is ongelooflijk, het wordt lastig om twee Britse races te hebben."

Doodzonde als Silverstone van de kalender gaat verdwijnen, ben nog steeds verdrietig dat Maleisië ook al pleitheimen is, wat houden we nou nog over als gave circuits?

Liberty wil zo veel
Laat ze nu maar eerst de serieuze zaken aanpakken, voorlopig zijn er alleen randzaken aangepakt soms positief en soms negatief maar te onbelangrijk om er erg veel herrie over te maken.

Persoonlijk zou ik een stratencircuit in Londen wel heel gaaf vinden maar het mag nooit ten koste van Silverstone gaan.

Laat Liberty nu eerst eens wat aan o.a. de prijzen etc. van de bestaande circuits gaan doen.
