Whiting erkent falen derde DRS-zone op Silverstone

FIA-racedirecteur Charlie Whiting geeft toe dat de derde DRS-zone op het circuit van Silverstone niet het gewenste resultaat heeft opgeleverd. De derde DRS-zone werd ingesteld om zo inhaalacties te kunnen bevorderen, maar dit effect bleef uit. 

"Eigenlijk heeft het niet geholpen, denk ik", vertelt Whiting tegenover GPupdate.net. "Het idee was dat de rijders iets dichter bij elkaar zouden kunnen komen dan normaal, zodat ze een betere positie zouden hebben om aan te vallen op het rechte stuk tussen bocht 5 en 6." 

Ondanks dat de derde DRS-zone op Silverstone niet heeft geholpen, komt er ook een extra zone tijdens de Duitse Grand Prix op Hockenheim. Zo kan de achtervleugel opengeklapt worden op het rechte stuk van start en finish, tussen de eerste twee bochten en op het lange rechte stuk naar de hairpin.

Werkte niet helaas maar het is goed dat men wat probeert. Het beste is denk ik om DRS helemaal vrij te gooien. Laat de coureurs zelf maar beslissen en uitvinden waar en wanneer ze het willen gebruiken.

      Maar dan heeft de DRS toch helemaal geen nut meer. De DRS is er juist om een voordeel te krijgen op degene voor jou. Wanneer iedereen DRS kan gebruiken wanneer die wil dan heeft iedereen dit voordeel en verliest het zijn effect. Of bedoel je dat de coureurs overal DRS mogen gebruiken wanneer ze binnen een seconde van de voorgangen zitten

      Gewoon de regel dat men x keer per race hun DRS mogen gebruiken wanneer ze binnen een seconde van hun voorganger zitten.

      World Series by Renault had dat inderdaad al. Je kon Drs in de race vrij gebruiken . Maar er werd gewerkt met een tijdslimiet van tussen de 800 en 1000 seconden ( afhankelijk van de karakteristiek van de baan waar gereden werd)

      @Browny29, wat te denken van een coureur die in een bocht zijn drs wél durft te gebruiken en een ander niet? Of door zijn auto wel kán gebruiken terwijl een ander dat gewoonweg niet kán? Zal zeker verschil maken in één race, maar de beste auto zal er meer voordeel aan hebben dan iemand met een mindere auto. Verschillen zullen groter worden en de kans op ongelukken ook.

      Denk dat je in een bocht, achter iemand nou juist meer downforce nodig bent, helemaal de coureurs die achter een Red Bull rijden.

      Precies @rimmer, dan kan je ook verdedigen met DRS.
      Maar dan voor een bepaalde tijd per ronde of zoiets.

      Zo als de oude A1 series waar ze een paar keer de power button konden gebruiken om in te halen! Dat zou ook prima kunnen werken met de DRS lijkt mij! Dan heeft iedereen voordeel op het tijdstip dit zei denken dat het nodig is, volgend jaar lijkt me dit een uitstekend moment om in te voeren! Komen er toch al veranderingen MBT inhalen!

    Op elke rechte stuk van elke circuit DRS gewoon toestaan, vond altijd al beetje vreemd waarom soms op de ene wel en andere niet.

      Het blijven lapmiddelen om meer inhaalacties te bevorderen, maar zoals vroeger DRS vrij te gebruiken kan het racen of kijken naar de race leuker maken. De bredere wagens hebben wel een hogere bochtensnelheid tot gevolg gehad, maar de banen zijn niet breder geworden, terwijl door aero-pakket inhalen lastiger en gevaarlijker is geworden.

    gewoon lichtgevende tegels op circuit, als je eroverheen rijdt krijg je een paddestoeltje en 10 sec DRS's

    Schaf DRS toch helemaal af...
    Heeft toch helemaal niets met racen te maken.
    Auto's aanpassen dat ze vlak achter elkaar aan kunnen rijden, en dan na een gezonde slipstream je voorganger proberen uit te remmen. Naar mijn mening veel beter voor de sport.

    Hoe bedoelt hij 'het heeft niet geholpen'? Enkele coureurs zijn er af gevlogen omdat ze over de limiet gingen, Alonso pakte Magnussen in de laatste ronde door WEL met DRS open door bocht 1 te gaan, en er zijn meerdere inhaalacties geweest na het 2e DRS stuk wat betekent dat de auto's dichter bij elkaar zaten. Zo zie ik het in ieder geval
