Ericsson: "Situatie Sauber volledig anders dan vorig seizoen"

Sauber staat er heel anders voor dan een jaar geleden. Dat stelt coureur Marcus Ericsson. De Zweed rijdt sinds 2015 voor de renstal, maar dit seizoen lijkt Sauber de weg naar boven weer gevonden te hebben. Volgens Ericsson is dat op meerdere vlakken te zien.

"Het is een enorm verschil", vertelt Ericsson tegenover Crash.net. "Het begint bij de financiële kant, dat platform is nu een stuk sterker en van daaruit wordt alles opgebouwd. Er zijn een aantal geweldige mensen bij het team gekomen en de mensen hebben een betere motivatie nu we vooruitgang boeken."

"We zijn in een compleet andere wereld dan twaalf maanden geleden en dat is geweldig om te zien. Ik denk dat het indrukwekkend is om te zien wat we hebben ontwikkeld in de afgelopen maanden en het is een mooie beloning voor het harde werk dat iedereen binnen het team geleverd heeft."

      Kaltenborn is degene die het team in leven gehouden heeft. Dit was Vasseur, met zijn achtergrond niet gelukt. De financiële middelen met Longbow heeft ze ook binnengehaald. En met Honda geld hadden ze gewoon een soortgelijke situatie. Niet qua snelheid, maar wel qua financiën. Ipv snelheid hadden ze onafhankelijkheid en het potentieel om uiteindelijk zelf voor de prijzen te gaan.

      Dus de situatie met Kaltenborn (die al sinds eind jaren '90 een belangrijke functie bij het team had en doorgegroeid is) is niet vergelijkbaar. Er is geen reden om te stellen dat Kaltenborn het niet ook zeer goed had gedaan, al had Sauber nu waarschijnlijk wel met Honda gereden of zelfs onder Honda gevallen.

      Tenzij de situatie zo was dat Ferrari zichzelf vanaf een bepaald punt aangeboden heeft en Vasseur toen die kans gepakt heeft. Gezien de verregaande mate van de deal, is dat niet onmogelijk.

    Jammer dat Marcus zelf geen groei heeft doorgemaakt. Lijkt me rijp voor z'n laatste seizoen zo langzamerhand. Leuk stoeltje voor een ervaren en snelle coureur - ik noem maar een dorp op - Kubica? Prima om naast LeClerc te zetten - ze lopen immers weg daar met hem bij Sauber.

    Marcus komt superlatieven tekort om de organisatie een veer in de kont te steken. Misschien dat het hem een verlenging van zijn contract op gaat leveren, maar ik denk eerlijk gezegd van niet. Leclerq is hem nu toch flink de baas en er dienen zich meer talenten aan om het eens op zijn stoeltje te proberen

      hij heeft echter nogal wat geldschieters achter hem staan.., waarom zouden ze hem dus weg doen? Stroll gaat ook niet weg bij Williams om maar wat te zeggen.

      @Misstappen: Omdat Sauber in het verleden afhankelijk was van Longbow. Nu hebben ze de Ferrari-gelden, waardoor Longbow minder dominant is. Sterker nog. Feitelijk is het Ferrari-B of C. Dus zelfs als Longbow de door Tetrapak gesponsorde Ericsson wil aanhouden, zullen ze hier voor Ferrari alsnog overheen stappen als Ferrari dit eist.

    Ik denk dat de sterk verbeterde (financiële) situatie wel eens het einde van Ericsson’s formule 1 carriere kan worden. Hij en zijn geld zijn immers niet meer nodig aangezien ze nu meer inkomsten hebben van de punten

      Longbow Finances, die gek genoeg nog steed achter Ericsson staan, is een van de grote geldschieters. Dus weet dat einde van de carriere zo net nog niet. Anders hadden ze vorig jaar wel voor Wehrlein gegaan. Ondanks zijn vermeende attitude, bracht hij als enige de punten vorig jaar. Terwijl Ericsson slappe optredens met domme spins afwisselde.

      Islero Investments heeft de taken van Longbow al overgenomen. Dus voor 2019 geen Ericsson meer denk ik. Google eventjes: "Maakt Alfa Romeo zich op voor een volledige overname van Sauber"

      Islero schijnt gewoon een andere BV te zijn van de heren van Longbow, maar toch is men bezig hun investeringen ten gelde te maken lijkt me. Een verkoop aan of in ieder geval een groter aandeel van Ferrari in Sauber lijkt me logisch. Ik zie (hoop eigenlijk...) Ericsson komend seizoen niet meer terugkeren in de formule 1. Ik neem aan dat Ferrari de stoeltjes voor hun talenten gebruikt net als Torro Rosso dat doet.

    Een nieuwe motor achterin tov de oude motor achterin vorig jaar is natuurlijk een lichtjaar verschil. Tel daarbij op het talent van Leclerc en Sauber is echt weer een leuk team dat serieus strijd voor punten.
